Cafes, coffee stops and favourite greasy spoons in Scotland

if in dornoch a great hot choc can be had at cocoa mountain. they also do coffees but i can't commment on the quality/taste.

Just in case it hasn't already been mentioned, The Sidings Cafe in Dufftown is a goodun. Mein Host is always pleased to see bikers and she is a bit of a laff.

https://g.co/kgs/RsZ6wMe The Main Street bookshop and cafe/bistro is an excellent stop off for anyone heading north or south on the A68.

Time was, I'd have avoided the 68 like the plague. Now all the speed cameras have been deactivated (on the Scotland side anyway) and the road surface is very good, it's a joy to ride.

The cafe is just off the main road, has very good grub and coffee and a wide range of books to browse.

A great stop to chill for a while.

I’ve been avoiding the A68 for years due to the amount of speed cameras on the Scottish part. I wasn’t aware they had been deactivated. Is there a reason they have been deactivated? Surely they were a great cash cow for the government?

Too expensive to service I suspect. The official reason given was that drivers were now driving to a much higher standard so they were redundant! I kid you not!

The A697 through Coldstream is still my favoured “Ogri” route. No cops, cameras and £5 rolls. There used to be hotties too - so I’ve been told 😬

Actually think it’s getting harder to find decent places that are not major chains. Fucking about in the Highlands just now and getting sick of dodgy £18 fish n chips or steak pie etc. Greggs is king with their spicy wedges and chicken fillets……….washed down with steak bake or sausage roll. Their coffee machine is decent too 👍👍

Me too, and I used to live in Hawick, so A7 was always easier to get to the north. However, was onthe A7 the with my son on Friday, and from the Galashiels to the Midlothian/Scottish Border boundary, there is an imposed 50mph limit. It was Friday, it was about 7.30-8.00 p.m. we might have done it a little faster than that - but watch out...

Was out on a ride last week, someone took us to the Watermill in Blair Atholl. Very good food, fabulous surroundings

Gonna take a drive up there this weekend with Mrs McB based on your note. Ta.

I'm going to Cultybraggan Camp again tomorrow. Just love that ride over Comrie moor. The cafe at Cultybraggan is pretty good, the setting is excellent 👍
Was there with BBS a couple of weeks ago:

Forres: Macleans Highland Bakery, not the shop on the high street, but the lesser known factory shop on the Industrial Estate next to Lidls. Ample off street parking and outdoor seating and now open on Sundays 0900 - 1300. Serving breakfast rolls, full breakfast boxes, pies and cakes, hot and cold drinks.
It’s carry out only but as mentioned has outdoor seating. Decent grub at a reasonable price.
