Hi Guys

We are travelling from Calais to Cambrai in September and will have about 2hrs to kill and I need some advice on the best war related sites we could stop at in this time:nenau

We need something to do as we don't want to get to our hotel too soon:thumb2

Thanks

Dave

Just head to Arras, it's not far from your destination and a good road from Arras to Cambrai.

In Arras, visit the Wellington Quarry. It's all underground if the weather is bad, the staff are very friendly and as a relatively recent discovery, it's something different.

I agree with Mike the Wellington quarry is really interesting. There is also Vimy just up the road and the tunnel complex there is amazing. The Canadian student guides know their stuff. 2 hours will do it no probs. :thumb2

The Batterie Todt just down the road from Calais. They have a website. If you have time, go look in the derelict defences with a torch and see some WW2 German graffitti.

The Wellington quarry could be just the ticket if the weather isn't great. Good to know what's recommended though!

Prefer to stay out side if the weather is good though?

Thanks

Dave

Arras will work.

The V2 base at the Blockhaus at Eperlecques, as suggested above, might well suit too.

Nearer to Canbrai itself, have a look at dropping some of these places onto a map:

Cambrai itself is nothing to write home about.

Me? I would work on a scenic route fom Calais to Cambrai, stop for a coffee and a bun and have done with it. There is a reasonably nice route down via Wissant, Marquise, Wierre Effroy, Desvres, Hesdin, Frevent, Doullens, Bapaume, Cambrai and quite a good chance you'll trip over a cemetery or two to have a look at en-route. A map is your friend.

It will certainly cross over with several of the cemeteries on the link.

Hesdin is a good place to stop for a coffee, with easy parking on the big main square.

Ok, I'll do a route for good weather and one for bad.

We've never had any spare time on this section before. 2 hours isn't much but we can have a quick look this time.

How long have you got to get from Calais to Cambrai?

At what time would you like to arrive at your hotel in Cambrai?
