So at the start of lockdown I figured that I would teach myself to service the bike.

The flats on the cams appeared out of line so to confirm this I bought the alignment jig and hey presto they are out.

My question is:- In order to time the cams correctly do you need the following tools or is there another way of correctly tensioning the cam chain?

83 30 0 444 292 Chain Tensioner Assembly
83 30 2 339 885 Sleeve

Please bear in mind that I am teaching myself so helpful comments will be greatfully received.

Thank you, stay safe.

Enjoy learning how to care for you bike!

This series will hopefully help you out.
Cheers

Hi,

Love your videos, I have no way of fabricating one of the Chain Tensioners that you feature. I guess it will be necessary to bite the bullet and buy the tool.

Yes, it is essential to put the drive chains in proper tension to achieve correct position of both cams to check/adjust their timing.

The price on these 2 parts has really increased, and for a period of time it was not available...that's why I tried to come up a DIY version.
