Is there any way to tell whether an 1150 engine has had the cam chain tensioner upgrade carried out, without dismantling it?
Is the upgraded hex head identified/different in any way?

Just done mine on a 1100 and the size of the nut on the top is 15mm instead of 17mm. I think this is the same for your 1150.

Tell me more about this upgrade please. I think it might be the cam chain rattling on my 110,000 1150Adv, but in any case, it is good to know for the future. I expect I will need a clutch at some stage soon too.

King Rat, you can buy the kit from motorworks for around £50 all in.
What it does is puts a better tension on the camchain during starting the bike and prevents the cam chain slapping around on the cam chain rail, a worn or weak cam chain tensioner can cause the cam chain rail to be damaged and lead to more serious failings.
As the previous poster says, if the nut is 17mm it has NOT been done and if its 15mm it HAS been done.

Its the LEFT hand N/S tensioner only by the way the right one does'nt suffer from the problem.

I can confirm old 17mm new one 15mm took me about 20 minutes to fit and what a difference no more horrible rattle on start up especially when its hot

Tensioner done.

I got mine done last week.
Took slightly longer, but that was caused by an expanded intake tube o-ring that took some persuading to get back to where it should be.
Much quieter now.
Just got to put the old one on ebay now...........
