After picking Noddys:rob brains about a strange noise from my engine, I ordered a new left hand cam chain tensioner from Cannons. They informed me that the modified part no longer has a spring inside it.

Can this be true & has anyone else replaced the spring tensioner with the springless version?

Hope to fit it on Saturday morning ready for a run out on Sunday.

Yep,thats OK,replaced mine with the springless version (the oil gets pumped in and stays in,so no spring needed).
Allow about 1-1 1/2 hrs for the job.

I did mine on wednesday, it makes a big dfifference :thumb2

There is a spring in side but you cant see it, oil pumps in as well. I thought that it was a bit rough to start with and so I put oil all over it to help it run smooter right from teh begining.

Its a bit fidaaly to get to, there is a great write up on it on ADVRider.

bext off doing valves and TB balance afterwards as well

Fitted it at the weekend. Took about 45mins with the aid of a magnetic thingy to get the old plunger out.
The engine is definately smoother.
