Campervans question.

Our California is Susans daily driver

It fits in car park spaces and multi story car parks
Another reason we went VW california is that any warranty or issues with either the van itself or the camper side of it is all the same company I.E VW rather than VW for the van and a conversion company for the camper side

It is quite nice to drive and has all the tech like cruise control sat nav etc etc DSG gear box and 4 wheel drive.

Camping for 2 + dog is easy and with the fitment of a driveaway awning can make a very large and comfy space to camp in

My only real issue as such is that in my greed i opted for the 204BHP engine which sounds all fine and dandy as it fair nips along but to get that BHP required the fitment of a very big Turbo which has a lot of lag so pulling out of junctions is like all or nothing

So dont be a greedy and get the 150BHP as i think its a better drive

Other than that they open the country up to some great times

Why have you taken a Dalek on hols ?

On your budget I think something like a second hand California or possibly professionally converted by someone like Hillside. We had a California for about 12 years and it cost very little in terms of depreciation. For several years it was my day vehicle and it’s good handling and relatively short wheelbase made it ideal for the job.

Mileage and a good service history are essential. In particular cam belts and water pumps need changing as per service schedule. Engine preferably 140 bhp or above.

Use the money and stay in nice Airbnb’s, with a big bed , shower, cooker, sofa etc.
Opening the doors in the morning expecting a beautiful view only to see more camper vans and listening to them shout at each other.
No damp van, mot, tax, insurance, maintenance etc
Lying in bed between worrying about some louts banging on the side of it in the middle of the night. Or the police moving you on.
Your back and wife will appreciate you for it.
And don’t get me started on the driving and parking of owners.

Ok so it’s not for everyone
That’s why I said hire before you buy.
but…

50k in on our second van and we love it. Been all over Europe, hardly ever use a camp site and we’ve had folks knock on the door just 3 times, each time to ask about the van and for a look inside.

No damp
No anxious lying in bed
My parking ain’t to shoddy
We tend to avoid parking with other campervans too.

Now where did I put that “One life, live it” sticker
🤭

If it's cold enough to need heating in my van, I stay home.

Had blown air heating in a previous vehicle and it was noisy and generally unpleasant. Hardly used it.

Nowt wrong with this….

Not too big, easy to drive and park, fixed bed, toilet, fridge….

Any neighbours can watch you curling one out with the tailgate up. At least you wouldn’t get any smells in the van. :D

Nice layout in this one. Not massive either. :thumb2

Nice looking van….

The first one is certainly a much better van. Slightly bigger, better running gear, more reliable, cheaper to fix as and when it needs fixing, toilet, fridge and for us the necessary fixed bed. The PVC vans certainly hold their money well. Perhaps it’s the 3.5tonne limit on younger people’s licence? Ours is plated at 4 tonne. Which means the kids cannot drive it.
The one like yours we rented was plated at 6 tonnes. A lovely van but no island bed option available back then.

The best thing is with a camper van / motorhome is that they have wind out awnings! :green gri

If it’s going to be a daily driver I’d want to be able to get it in an ordinary car space and under 2 metres high. Older VWs are silly money in my book (30k for a 20 year old van!).

Our diesel heater growls a bit on start up but keeps the van lovely and warm.

It’s a bitch when you get flashed for 25 in a 20 :D :beerjug:
Annoyingly it was on the Ilminster bypass, aka A303. We had just passed the dilapidated fixed camera on the Southbound lane when I gunned it to get in an overtake before the second lane finished to find a cheeky camera van parked in the verge. 71 in a 60 ! I chose the speed awareness class, why wouldn’t you. I was tempted to go on the Panigale but sense prevailed and I took the F800GS.

Thanks, they're all too big for my requirements but I appreciate you looking and posting them.
