Hi all,

I have been away for a while and have a real spaz question about tyres.

I have searched and read and confused myself silly!

I need a pair of tyres soon and want to replace my road tyres with Knobblies.

I thought TKC's but how are they on the road?

Any other tyre suggestions for good road characteristics? I want some off road hence the knobblies plus they look awesome

tkc's are nothing like road tyre when on the tarmac. when I had them it really slowed my riding down, but once you get used to them and scrub them in your confidence will grow.

If you get them, stick with them because as said they do feel better with time. If you are a fast rider though don't expect more than 4k out of the rear.

I'm with ian. Will feel horrible to start with but you soon get used to them and it's suprising how far you can push them.

I liked the idea of TKC's but hated the thought of 3-4k miles per rear, especially after the price was hiked so much as the popularity of the product increased.

I fitted a set of Heidenau K60's which certainly last far longer. A new product called the K60 Scout (I think) is now becoming available. Looking at the revised tread pattern I think that they are trying to extend the on road life a bit more.

They K60's still moved around a lot compared with road or road biased trail tyres but you can ride them to the side walls once you are used to them. Look here

Metzeler Karoo (T) 2s....

...are just as good on the back as a TKC80 and can be bought for roughly £70 delivered from Minemoto in germany inc. postage

they are very good in the dry and last summer i found them to be just as confidence-inspiring as a road tyre round corners

in the wet they just make you ride a bit more sensibly but there's nout wrong with that

TKC's are very good once used to them. I've scrapped the engine guards while in the Pico's, you will run out of brakes and vision before grip.

The rear can move around in rain when really pushing it but you can feel it starting so more than safe.

Off road they are lot better. I went back to tourances after and missed them.
