(I did a search for a specific answer to my query, honest, so sorry this is probably another much repeated fuel type thread)

Is it possible to alter i.e lower the miles indicated that are left in the tank when the fuel warning triangle comes on an 08 1200GS ?

Mine comes on at 40 miles fuel left in tank and I would prefer it to come on say only as a 25 miles left warning. I know when to fill up without the warnings, which happen too early for my liking. Bit of a saddo I know to be bothered about this, but there you go.

Also when I've got down to not many miles left on the countdown warning I NEVER ever get more than around 17.5 litres in the tank, even filling it to the brim.
Surprise surprise seems my guage is not showing correct as why can't I get the other +- 2 litres in when the tank is almost empty ?

I find the fuel warning comes on at anything between 30 and 45 miles on the rnge indicator. I think it depends on your current fuel consumption rate. My car does the same - sometimes it makes diesel.

madame's F800 does the same.

Other threads note that the fuel warning is very optimistic, with some folk getting 20+ miles after the 0 mark comes up. There seems to be a reserve after the reserve it seems.

Best advice, ignore the warning and get to know the total mileage your tank can do by running out of petrol at least once (preferably with a can strapped on the rack!). Mine can deliver 225 miles with a fat tosser on board on a relable basis.

I don't know if it is possible to set the warning to any other figure but I had the gauge reset in my 07 tank by Lind Motorrad in Norwich (under warranty) and from then after it reads much more accurately - ie if it says nearly empty - it really is nearly empty!

Swap it for a GSA then you'll get over 30 quid in the tank!:adv:

Did they do this free? I'm having the warning light on on mine at about 130 miles gone even if I have spent an age dribbling fuel up to the neck, giving a supposed 199 mile range when I set off.

Yes the it was free as the bike was under warrenty ie first two years.

Thanks, I'll see about getting mine done. It is a real pain that I am getting only 130 miles before the warning comes on. Given the distance between filling stations in parts of the continent, I really need to either stop at the very next one, or accept that 20 miles down the road I am going to expect to have to leave the motorway. It is the same in the UK often, too. Doing Newcastle to London, I like to get the 300 miles done in under 4 hours, and the difference between 160 miles from a tank and 130 can be significant.

On Sunday, I was pushing on to get my train back from Calais, and despite filling up after leaving Paris, I needed another tankfull in Le Touquet.

My 07 GSA fuel trip & gauge deffo depends on your riding style.
For example I have noticed a range of 120 miles and 3 blocks on the gauge, if I take it easy the blocks go up to 4 and the range goes up as well (as if fuel is being added to my tank!).
So it isn't so much a gauge that tells you how much fuel you have, more of a gauge the guesses how much distance you can cover based on your current riding style and the fuel you have.
There is probaly some formula that zee germans use for this.
