before i make a start stripping carbs down, just thought i would ask the questions

RHS carb (bing slider type) has started pi$$ing out when stood, ok when running. leaks from the bottom of the bowl.

carb feels loose and moves, but the clamp to the head is tight:nenau

well thats it i think?

anything you can think of?

Floats not floating, or incorrectly set?

Most likely.

Whip the bowl off and check float function. And check the gasket whilst you're at it.

And if the bowls haven't been off for a while, empty out all the water sitting in the bottom :D

cheers for that:thumb2

i do suspect float or the level stop may have worn, but seems odd that the whole carb moves about?
anyhoo, weekend job for me to do:rolleyes:

I will be out all day on my C butler tomorrow Harry. May be in by 5pm or in next few days if you like, Give us a txt first.
Ps .re carb moving about. Take carb (to) head rubber off and the stub into the cyl head will be loose I suspect. (They come unscrewed sometimes. "They all do it sir" !!)

your right mate, twas that, dam thing wont run now tho, starts coughs and splutters and dies!!!!!!!!!! arghhhhhh
fuel starvation now its just one extreme to another

its like havin a 1200:nenau

Hi

Sounds like your float needles are sticking in their seats. This is not uncommon if the bike has been unused for a while. An easy thing to check:

Turn off the petcocks, remove the float bowls one at a time, look at how much fuel is in the bowl, put a container under the carb, and gently lift the float with one finger, turn on the relevant petcock. You should get fuel coming out if you let the float drop and it should stop when the floats are parallel to the carb body.

This should quickly reveal the source of the problem. Solutions generally involve disassembling the carbs, carb cleaner solution and ensuring the tiny clips on each float needle are correctly fitted.
