Hi lads,
Been given a new Carpuride and wanted to know best way to wire it up. I could power up from a USB but not sure if this is the best way especially if it rains. I do have a tomtom wired up and wanted to know if fittings are the same or maybe cut wires and do it that way ?

Cheers Doc

Switched live feed. They run on 12v so if its USB it will be stepped-up by the lead.
If the USB doesn't supply enough volts, even by .2v you can get problems with drop-outs.
I don't like the ball mounts. Its a big unit and you'll get quite a lot of wobble, especially on your roads :D

If you want to make your own boot-screen, this is the best one: Carpuride boot

Not sure how I'll mount it yet John.

Oh and it's for the Harley so a bit more bouncy. 😂

Well it's definitely big.😆 but for nowt ill fit it. Looking at connections it might go into my tomtom fitting. I'll look tomorrow

Any of you lads know if I can get a extended ball mount ? The two lugs are preventing me fitting the arm on the way i need to fit it on the bike. Bit reluctant to cut the lugs off.
Cheers Doc.

Extended, as in you want a post (at the point circled red) so as to sit the ball higher, so it sets the jaws of the clamp (circled green) clear the lugs?

I guess you might be able to Dremel a slot or gap into the jaws of the clamp, so that it clears the lugs, without the clamp’s jaws failing to grip?

Yes. I thought i could pack it out with washers but can't because of the way it fits on.

An alternative, might be to fashion a bar or plate to go between the two lugs (assuming they have a thread in them) and find a way to affix the ball mount to the bar / plate?

Somebody might be able to 3D mould you an entire top plate, without the lugs. That though might depend on how the top plate affixes to the bottom.

Dremel the lugs down, if you’ll never use them.

PS I hate Ram Mounts, with a bizarre passion. Ugly things.

Yes sorry must have been half asleep as I'm not usually that thick either!
Isn't there an adapter on the carpuride website?
