I just did this today and took some photos of the operation for those that are considering doing the same.

Tools required
Hex 6mm bit
Torx T40 bit
22mm open ended spanner
15mm spanner
10mm spanner
Soft faced hammer

plus a vice if you are going to attempt to seal the Y-piece to the end can with the existing clamp.

Procedure:

Pretty simple stuff. Loosen 3 clamps and remove three bolts like so:

Disengage the Lambda Sensor wire from the side of the engine so that it is free:

Remove the silencer and clamp/guard before pulling the cat free. A good few taps to the ends of the clamp bolts can help loosen tight-fitting joints.

Look after the sensor wire as you remove the cat and position the box at the side of the bike supported by something that doesn't strain the sensor. Un bolt the sensor and allow the cable to twist:

When installing the sensor in the new Y-Piece allow the coiled lead to unwind and bingo.

Reassemble with everything loose and fit the end can on. You may wish to modify the clamp/guard so that it tightens fully agains the Y-piece tube, in which case you'll have to remove this from the clamp bolt:

Once satisfied that everything is in alignment, tighten everything up and you're laughing. Total time 1.5 hours including buggering around with the clamp and figgering it all out on my own. You'll probably get it done in less than an hour.

Eddie,

Are you still running the standard can with the Y piece? If you are what have you done with the country code plug.

I have heard that you do not need it if you remove the cat but I have also heard that you should leave it in.

I am confused.

I replaced the chip with a BBPower, and run with no code plug anymore.

If you replace the Cat box without replacing the end can I believe that you remove the CCP and run without.

City Sliker, How much did you pay for the Y pipe and chip and what's she go like now... Do you rekon you could now beat me on a run down to the Ace!

Yes, even with all the luggage I think I can. Do you still have the stock muffler attached?

Yeah but what are you testing the bike ? Your madness ? I have seen you guys hair (or is it hare) it down that road.

Now to be fair perhaps you should perform this twice. Once on own bikes and once on each others. Maybe this would eliminate the variable called RIDER or eliminate the rider. One of the two.

Take it easy guys, go safe.

Anyhow give me a few months and I dare say I shall embark upon go faster mods. Mad mad mad.

Hi Mark

Cutting corners with the clamp I see... You'll be modifying it later I'm sure because the clamp does not seal on the Y-piece, it being marginally smaller.

The buzz is from poorly balanced TBs. The Y-piece shouldn't affect the balance of TB's but I think that the extra HP or air flow shows up the balancing more.

I noticed that it runs cooler but the weather has been getting cooler so the jury's out on this.

The bike runs very well under load and pulls much better throughout the entire range. It sounds nicer, which is probably the reason I'm flooring it a bit more. Took a 350 mile trip yesterday and pretty much caned it there and back on 40 litres which isn't bad I suppose.

Still running the stock exhaust, which it seems barely worth replacing for the marginal gains in performance.

I did Rauku's and Wreford's Y-piece installation this week, so it seems like a popular mod.
