Just bought a Nav.II for my 1150, very happy with it.

Came with the stock 512mb CF card & what I think is Version 6 mapping (Mapsource?) that cover British Isles, France, Spain & Portugal.

I've been given a new disc (wrapped & from a BMW dealer) marked v.7 that covers the above plus Italy, Greece, Finland & from memory (it's at home) Belguim, Holland, Germany & Czech Republic.

Am I right in thinking that if I down load the whole of the new disc on to the current 512mb card, this will automatically overwrite what's already on the card?

Is a 512mb card big enough or is it worth my while getting a 1 or 2gb card?

Will any CF card do the job - I see some that are advertised as "single layer"? Does this affect quality or performance?

I've currently got the unit mounted on the standard handlebar cross brace using the two bolt square block clamp on the rear of the cradle - is this okay vibe wise?

Yes, you've guessed correctly - I'm a GPS n00b struggling through the information overload & in need of help. :D

Depending on what parts of Europe you put on, ie Germany or heavily populated countries, you will soon use up 512mb.

(I could get the whole of Spain and nearly all France on the original 512 card).

I've recently bought a 2Gb CF card from a Hong Kong supplier on ebay. Total with delivery was around £90. It's a Sandisk card same as OE card. Just put it in and put all of Europe on it. There's still about 400Mb left.

The original handlebar mount is ok. Vibrations don't seem to affect the Nav at all. Trouble with the OE mount is that with a tank-bag you might have difficulty reading it.

Migsels mount is excellent. I was directed down 33 Kms of dirt track in Spain by the Nav. Deep ruts and lots of bouncing around. The Migsel mount worked fine and stood up to the pounding.

It also puts the Nav more into your eye line. If you don't go for the audio then it's easier to see when a prompt appears.

Thanks for the info.

I've seen the CF cards from Hong Kong, good price. I've also a 2gb card on Amazon or Ebuyer for £81.00. I like the idea of a 2gb card with all of Europe downloaded already.

Any idea about the Single Layer deal on some CF cards?

Your comment re: tankbags & the stock mount was something I'd not considered - thanks!

A friend has the Migsel mount. I can appreciate the workmanship but didn't like the unit sat up high above the clocks. If I need to change, I may go for a Ram mount off the bars somewhere.

The peak you've made for yours looks good - is it velcroed on? Too soon to tell if I need one, only bought mine last Friday evening.

Thanks again.

Henrik,

It is home-made.

Search the GS Mods thread for 'sunshade'. Full "how to" is there.

I'm not sure what the Swedish equivalent of B&Q is though!

PM me if you need any explanation.

Mike.
