I had a couple of test rides on the 800 version first, solo, and with pillion...and I/we were suitably impressed, with both , arse space, and power.
The 1000 MT-X, has a..re-worked, new ( but already out on KTM Duke ) engine..so no problems with early camshaft wear, Brembo brakes, KYB suspension, Bosch electronics, and more...WTF.
And, a 4 year warranty !
I admit, the airbox needs modified, and it will be before I head off....but ( apart from the elephant in the room ), I really can't find any negatives.
Rade Garage ( CZ ), are working on, and starting to produce upgrades for the 1000 already. I have been in contact with them, so some lower and wider pegs are on their way, and I'll grab one of their screens once I'm further into Euroland.
Rade, make some quality upgrades , but only for bikes that they deem to be suitable !
I'm waiting to see what Adventure Spec also come up with..

Yes, received, and now 3k km in ( Gdansk tomorrow ).
A totally different machine to what I'm used to ( think S10 & 950 SE ), but...I'm loving it so far.
It needs, a re-worked seat ( I have an AliExpress 885, but still too soft ), lower pegs ( hoping to receive mine in BG, sent from Rade soon ), and some screen work !
Apart from some cosmetics..
But, I had to deal with a catastrophic failure, and had to ride 2 hours out of my way, so that a BMW Motorad / CF-MOTO dealership could change a leaky fuel tap o-ring..
Free of charge, but a healthy tip left for the lovely lady mechanic ( drained tank etc ).
This particular Motorad dealership is 50/50...BMW downstairs, CF-MOTO upstairs.
Kinda says something.

Yeah, heading Eastish, Gdansk tomorrow, then Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, meeting Maureen in Motocamp Bulgaria..then heading more east, and south, hopefully Armenia.
We'll both be working at Motocamp BG for their HU Meeting, will then head towards Georgia / Armenia.
Loving the bike so far, I like KTMs, ( own a 690 and also a 950SE )...and when I get a chance to de-cat, remap, fit a foam filter, Wings or Akrapovich...this particular model will be right up there, along with all the other affordable ( Chinese ) legends

Is it because you got used to being shafted without lube (pun intended) by BMW?
Funnily enough, I got my bike serviced by an independent out my way recently. I told him to check the splines for lube, bike had a major service last year at BMW. He asked why, and I said, I don’t trust the xxxxers at BMW.
Anyway, dry as a xxxxing bone, never seen any grease since it came out of the factory.
But I still prefer shaft drive, I am just not ready for a wing…… yet

Not sure that bike is for me, it’s an old man’s bike, then Charley and Ewan showcased it on the Tellybox and tossers went mad about it. Not much changed really, the only difference I read about, is that BMW pulling more trousers down, and raiding your savings pot to “upgrade” your £20k+ steed of awesomeness with stuff that should be included in the price from the production line.
I know that I won’t be ever buying a brand new BMW again. Not least I think the latest 1300 stuff does look utterly fugly. What will be dished out next only the almighty knows. Probably not much prettier in all honesty.
I have never bought a new bike, did have a K75 company bike. (No cred, never mind street cred
). My last bike, a Varadero, bought off a bloke from here, I kept about 10 years, so this bike, I hope will see me into my 70’s. I do remember everybody saying how horrible the 1200 gs was and it would never sell, (I liked it) imagine the 1300 will be the same. (I am not so sure about the 1300gsa looks though. It is still outside my budget.
Ask me in 5 years, I might have some money for a secondhand bike, but, it my one is still doing the job, meh, why change it.
Breaking news, Honda's £30K 380kg two wheeled caravan is better than you think.I think the 1300GS (not the GSA) is the best looking GS since the Hexhead, it's lost the 'clutter' than made the LC's look like they fell out of a Christmas cracker.
Am I the only Tosser to have never seen or read anything of the exploits of Charley and Ewan? Someone bought me one of their books for Christmas, it was in the local Oxfam within days
I had a test ride today from Smalley Cross in Ilkeston, the bike is amazing value at £9K so was keen to see what it was like.
I really liked the low COG, the lowish seating position meant I could flatfoot and it accelerated brilliantly. I loved all the tech on it, including heated everything as well as TPMS. The exhaust has a lovely burble on overrun too. Unfortunately the buffeting at speed was awful regardless of what position the screen was in, the screen is a long way away from the rider, it was unbearable for me at 70 for any period of time.
I also thought the gearchange was really notchy, even though it had a quick-shifter which was terrible on downchanges and the suspension was harsh and hard despite being KYB (maybe it would have been possible to dial this out by softening the settings). The throttle response was really too harsh, with no free play at all which meant when I first set off I nearly launched it across the car park. I didn't get time to try the modes to see if 'rain' mode softened the response, but as this was standard mode and there was no 'Sport' mode (just Off road) then it seemed far too immediate (or maybe I'm just used to my single cylinder 400cc softer response now).
It just felt like a 1st gen bike, quite unrefined and a definite no from me. Awaiting now the KTM 690 Adventure which seems to be getting closer....

I think a lot of reviews by YouTubers etc are really generous towards the Chinese stuff because of the price point and image they have.
But good seats of the pants reviews such as yours are always much more valuable.

Thanks, I realise mine is one opinion amongst thousands and also much of it is subjective. The screen for example is a complete deal breaker for me but I suspect others will ride it and not have the issue (I'm 5'11" and wear a peaked Arai X-tour 4). My perceived issues like the quickshifter and notchy gearchange could be down to poor setup, I'd just advise people to ride it before they buy it which always makes sense if possible.

I also see the vlogger 'That Biker Simon' purchased one so he will no doubt be vlogging about it. Interested to think what @mspenz thinks of his once he has it.
Well he’s had it nearly a month and has ridden it to Poland , as mentioned above in this very thread .
I’m going to have to try one as looks a a great bike .
