hello gsers.im in a dilema,im thinking of selling my r1150gs an getting a vfr 800 vtec.what do ya reckon, ive heard a lot of vfr owners have changed to gs.any tips and honest opinions,i use my gs for commuting and fun.cheers paul

Sell a BMW?

I'm brainwashed, so I just cote my neighbour:
You don't sell BMW's, you buy them. ;)
BMW = quality. And BMW use new technology e.g. ABS.
...but i'm not an expert..

I'm doing the reverse...

I've just got out of VFR's, had 2 in a row and want something with a bit of character, VFRs are superb bikes but boring, I kept pushing myself to get a buzz, and at 44 I can't keep expecting my luck to last keep up with me.
As you've got a GS and I've only just ordered one we're at different ends of the spectrum but all I can say is don't change for the sake of change, park the GS up and use a car for a while, you might enjoy it more when you go back to it.

Had a GS,bought a VFR,sold it quickly, bought 2 more GS's.Wouldn't go back to a VFR now.

Depends what you like.Good points and bad about both.If I didnt have the GS I would have a VFR.Had a 88/89 750.Did a starship milage, cant remember exactly but it was was in the region of 127,000 (already had 32,000 on it)It never missed a beat till the last 10,000 miles which is understandable. Most folks bikes in this board has had more problems/niggles in the first 10,000 miles than I had in 127,000.
I would say the finish is alot better than new 1150 and probably honda customer care would be alot better(after reading recent threads).
I wouldnt say the VFR is bland but it isnt a GS and doesnt have the character of the GS.

Dont do it!

My advice, like many others, is keep the GS if you can, as you will inevitably end up wanting another one at some stage. If you're after something a bit sportier get a cheap CBR600 for the odd day when you fancy a thrash. I sold my GS1150 last year having owned it for a couple of years and bought an R1100S - great bike quick enough, tours, two up etc etc, but still longed for something for those days when you just want to take a leisurely spin out, irrespective of the conditions. So I bought an R80GS Kalahari(Basic) and find that I only take the S out on dry sunny days.
Hope this helps.

Pedro
