Cheap ignition units

A DAB 126 comes up as a 4pin unit with no Bosch equivalent. Dab400 is the seven pin Gs type. I have been looking for a voltage regulator to replace the mechanical one (as early airhead) fitted to my Guzzi and have found a trade supplier that does these, ign units, diode boards and brushes at keen prices...whetherthey will supply me is yet to be seen.

Does anyone have the Bosch numbers for ign coils so i can look them up.

Part number for the Bosch coil, latter pattern as fitted to my R100GS is

0 221 500 203 - 8SE

Made in Slovenia

Denso make an equivalent with seperate HT lines. I had one fitted with yellow HT cables and Nippon plug caps to match the Bumblebee but I cant remember the part number.

Motomartin is it true the GS/Trabant tanks were made from paper and crafted by teams of specially trained horny communists?

You were nearly right

Rob sent me a PM last night asking about these modules to which I replied and then this morning stumbled across this thread so now understand where he was coming from. Rob clearly has a good memory cos I must have mentioned to him at some point that I work at Intermotor, or the company that it has now become. We were taken over by an American company (Standard Motor Products) about 6 years ago but essentially we are still Intermotor and based in Nottingham. My job is putting together product ranges so I know something about these parts in question here. We have never really investigated what applications our parts may have in the motorcycle world, the car aftermarket being our core business. I was surprised to read all of this.

Anyway the Intermotor 15000 and Lucas DAB400 are indeed one and the same part. I can confirm that. The Lucas DAB126 is completely different although the plastic case is similar. It has, as pointed out, 4 pins not the 7 of the 15000 and is anyway different electrically.

The Intermotor 15000 / Lucas DAB400 replaces the following OE numbers:

0 227 100 137 Bosch
0 227 100 100 Bosch
0 227 100 101 Bosch
0 227 100 103 Bosch
0 227 100 104 Bosch
0 227 100 113 Bosch
0 227 100 116 Bosch
0 227 100 118 Bosch
0 227 100 137 Bosch
0 227 100 138 Bosch
0 227 100 139 Bosch
0 227 200 005 Bosch
1 227 022 008 Bosch
318738 Telefunken
333231 Telefunken
335622 Telefunken
338738 Telefunken

There’s loads of other vehicle manufacturer numbers but I shan’t bother you with those.

I’ve also attached a picture but don’t know where in the thread it will appear.

There are various manufacturers of these worldwide:
Standard Motor Products ie us – we now supply the Lucas brand and also the OE brand whom I’m not allowed to mention but it begins with B and ends in H.
Huco – German manufacturer who used to supply Lucas before us – good quality.
Mobiletron – old Taiwanese company – decent products actually despite being far eastern and cheap
Taiwan Good Will – ok quality.
Plus probably many Chinese manufacturers of variable / questionable quality.

If it was my vehicle I’d be happy with either Intermotor, Lucas, Huco or Bosch product but would probably avoid any other. Heat and vibration are the usual killers of these types of products. Typically the wire connections between the pins and the circuit board are what causes trouble. Modules heat up in use and the joints (if soldered) expand and break the circuit. That’s why they often work for a while then fail but will work again when cooled down. Decent quality modules are wire bonded not soldered to avoid this happening. Always make sure you use the heat dissipating grease when installing the part. You’ll regret it other wise as you’ll cook it!

In terms of getting a replacement one of these the best place to go in my view is a proper motor factors. You’ll then have full warranty if anything does go wrong and how much are you really going to save over ebay or the breakers yard? Motorworks need to align their prices to the market rate.

Hope I haven’t bored you too much with this. Have I covered everything?

Rich

PS I looked up that coil number. I don’t think we do that unfortunately. According to my Bosch catalogue it only fits BM bikes hence we’ve never investigated it.

On another subject we also manufacture ignition leads, oxygen sensors temperature sensors etc. Any views on wether it would be worth us doing BM bike ones?

Brilliant response Rich C. My thoughts that the Lucas, Intermotor and begins with B and ends in H are the same and indeed manufactured by the same company are correct. They are identical in appearance. So buy the Intermotor from your local car motor factor. DAB 400, Intermotor 15000, Bosch by whatever number and get the same product.

Maybe avoiding Motorworks at double the price would be a good idea.

R100 Ignition module

Thanks for all this useful info
Alas my module isn't mentioned in any of the replies

It is stamped:
Telefunken 12.14 -1 244477

Can anyone tell me the Lucas or Intermotor equivalent please?.
Is Intermotor 15000 / Lucas DAB400 equivalent?

thanks
David

Ok David,
I plugged that Telefunken number into our Bosch CD Rom catalogue and it came out with the following cross reference information (assuming you can see the screen dump I've just saved and attached)

As you can see that cross refers straight back to Bosch 0227 100 137 and 138 which are our old friends the Intermotor 15000 and Lucas DAB400. Also attached below now that I know it's working is the applications listed in the Bosch catalogue...

Shit, sorry about that! :D I shall try to ensure that it doesn't happen again!

Rich
That's excellent! Thanks for the info - and the cost saving.
The main dealer could only come up with the same part number as my spare unit (which is larger and attaches differently to the frame)

Regards
David
