Chigee AIO 6

In no rush now to get my AIO6 as I haven’t got a bike to put it on. Due to a nice lady who was more concerned about the dog barking in the back, than checking to see if a motorcycle was coming. The bikes now in the hands 4th Dimension, God help me and I’m getting an Africa Twin until it’s sorted.

Have to say I was unfortunate enough to have to use 4th Dimension last yeah when some scally's tried to pinch my bike. Have to say the weren't the speediest but I was happy with the service.

My AIo-6 is apparently shipping this week (will see when I believe it) then will post a for sale advert here for it..

Looks like a good product so far though!

I’ve had my AIO-6 since the beginning of March and have done well over 3000miles with it on and have literally one disconnection which then resolved itself and that’s it. No other problems whatsoever.

Working perfectly so far :) Currently in the Czech Republic after having a bimble down through Holland and Germany. It’s a superb upgrade from the AI05, and the ODB module works with the Stelvio.

MRA is behaving itself on my routes, using offline maps when I need to.

yes, that's what i am thinking as well.. Will try some different cables.....
Doesn't like my iphone charger and cable either as apparently that's a quick charger and that's toooo much juice...temperamental fekkin thing..
Are you using a USB-C charger and USB-C cable? Try a USB-A charger and USB-A to USB-C cable as I’ve got several USB-C devices which will only charge off a USB-A port.

UPDATE: read further into the thread and you already know that. I’ll go back to bed :)

Still out here in that Europe, I’ve done just over 3,000 miles now using the AI06 and MyRouteApp, with the odd dip into Calimoto for some adhoc wanders and it’s not missed a beat at all.

Screen is also really good in bright sunlight, better imho than my AIO5, I do have their Matt screen protector fitted though.

It’s stayed put riding some gravel roads in the quick release holder, as I did have some minor concerns that it was maybe not beefy enough, but it’s been fine.

Really happy with it.

Had my AIO 6 for a while but this will be the first long trip. 6 days France. Will take my Nav6 as back up

Today whilst getting everything ready I tried fitting the unit into the BMW cradle but the fit was terrible. Kept popping out of the mount. I did manage to press the top of the unit so it fitted better and having waggled it around it seems to be OK. Removed it and the same all over again. After a bit of pressing and gently trying to get it to fit again it now seems to be OK
Certainly no nice “click” that I have with the Nav6
Anyone else had this?
I obviously have the BMW Chigee mount and maybe I have screwed this too tight to the unit so that it has distorted slighlty

Will see how it goes but don’t fancy it popping out on the motorway tomorrow as I head into France …

Decided to give one of these gadgets a go (AIO-6 max) and it arrived yesterday... it's been a struggle I must admit but I suspect that is down to me tbh...67 yr old and still on feet and inches 🙄😂

So, the TFT screen is showing software version 022.007.020...the (recently new-to-me) bike is a 2018 model and doesn't look like it's had an update for a while... can anyone advise what the current version is, pse? I (I think this is where my main problem lies).

You’d have to say which model bike yours is for anyone to check. I found the numbers don’t make any kind of date sense so it’d have to be someone who’s definitely had their, same bike recently updated. Vertu at Baildon would sort you out though.
It shouldn’t really make a difference to setting up your Chigee, On my 2024 R1300GS it (AOI5) just worked from the wonder wheel, I just had to sort the connection to my phone and helmet to the Chigee, not through the TFT.
Also, delete/clear all device connections in the TFT before starting.
I’ve now got the AOI6 so will be setting that up when I get my bike back.

Thanks for the reply ts... I've been with Browny on this site this morning who also has the same unit and we've got it down to the fault being on my phone (Huawei P30 Pro)... maybe too old now but still not making the connection which is a shame really as I'm on the 20.30 Hull/Rotterdam ferry tomorrow for a wet week in The Eiffel... looks like the Nav will have to do for now.

Aren't Huawei banned from Google?
You have to install them yourself.

first 3 days in France and the thing works fine. However with carplay and the navigation the phone battery lasts only about 5 hours. Phone is new so its not the battery. Luckily I can charge the phone whilst riding. So far very happy with it.

Navigation, added to having to mirror to a remote device, possibly coupled with other app’s running (some in the background, unseen) may well eat into battery life.

Keep a portable charge brick in your tank bag...with a tiny lead...should the battery run low (or a magnetic one if you're posh)

Or

Run a charge lead....from a power outlet on the bike.....into your tank bag.

It really isn't an issue.

Also.... iPhone's have small batteries.......get yourself a big ass android phone.

(no clue what phone anyone uses.....just throwing it out there)

One thing that I’ve noticed with MagSafe (wireless) PowerBanks, is that they cause phone to run quite warm, due to the nature of the induction charging. Perfectly fine when you are asleep or having closed all of the apps in the phone and left it alone to do its thing (that being charging).

Put said phone and power bank inside a confined space such like your tank-bag, whilst your using it as a navigator, along with say streaming music/radio (all wirelessly via BT or local WiFi) and suddenly the phone is running quite a bit warm. At same time, internal battery management systems, stops it from charging from a wireless PowerBank whilst also throttling back peak performance in order to cool down. Thats when things start to get laggy, Nav throwing a hissy fit. Your phones screen not responding and/or screen does go really dark, with faint message being displayed, telling you that your phone needs to cool down before you can use it again.

You are better off having wired charging solution. Better still, try to run Nav in the offline map mode. Download music playlist or two to your phone internal memory. This in turn will let the battery have an easier life. Remember, battery life depends on how often it is charged to a 100%, how hot do you let it run, etc.
Optimum battery charging (be it Electric Car or you phone) is between 20% and 80%*. On modern iPhones (iPhone 15 onwards), you can set the maximum charging to stop a 80% or above. This in turn does allow me to use my phone all day, with most of the time enough charge left for me to get in a van and start wirelessly charging whilst I drive.

Going back to tank-bags.

I have been using my Givi ST603 Tank-bag, along with their power hub accessory for the past 8-9 years. It is a hardwired power lead, that is permanently attached to the bikes battery, which then secured to a panel in front of the fuel tank (within the steering column aperture) from there I plug in a detachable fly lead that does plug into watertight transfer block on my tank-bag. Inside the tank bag, there is a 3 x USB-A** power port hub, which is plugged into the bung. Simple solution, that is neat, which does allow me to keep my phone topped up (via a foot long cable) when necessary, as well as I get to charge my overnight power bank for those times when I am camping for example.

*For example I run mine at 80%, this in turn resulting with phone being used relatively heavily (work) for the past 17 months, yet battery capacity still being at 94%.

** I am surprised that Givi haven’t released a USB-C version yet, seeing as USB-A has technically been knocked on the head by Eurocrats in Brussels.
