I’m seeing an incredible amount of Chigee and Carpuride units becoming available for sale on the forum of late, considering they have only been available for a short period of time are they really that bad?

Are people buying them on impulse and finding they really are just shite? Discuss...

Probably getting prepared for the incoming AIO-6 model from Chigee.

I had a Carpuride that I bought from someone here & I now have a Chigee AO5 again bought from the forum. I did have issues with the Carpuride inasmuch as part of the screen became unresponsive, hence I bought the Chigee. The Chigee seems to be a more solidly built item than the Carpuride. I’ve had it running for probably 8 months now, covered 10000m in all weathers & it’s been fine. Does all I need it to do & works with the whizzy wheel.
Seeing as I had a Nav 6 that ghosted & I found the BMW Connected app rubbish (although I ran it on an iPhone & not the CRN) I think for the money the Chigee is excellent.

Not everyone likes Google Maps or the other brands. Connectivity is also an issue in some cases. I am getting an Interphone from here see how it goes. Last year I used a phone as a trial but didn't like the 8 hour rain (old 11) and it got soaked. So really I just want a device to mirror the phone. Not interested in music/calls/etc. For £85 is not a bad shout. Considering that a new Chigee Aio 5 for bmw is £469. I still have the Peak Design mount on the bike if the Interphone fails.

I cannot see the advantage of these devices, over a modern large screened iPhone or similar. All the devices are doing is mirroring what is otherwise displayed on the phone’s screen. Why add another layer of connectivity?

I've had 3 phone camera's fail due to being constantly mounted on the bike, that being said I now have a Quad lock mount with the vibration damper. That has been spot on so far and my phone camera has survived.
I've got a Carpuride W702BS which is excellent, nice large screen, easy to read and works very well for me. I use MRA for my route planning & riding so it's fairly effortless.

Because they can also show tyre pressures and even front /rear cameras if you get them included .
An iPhone can’t do either .

More to the point, why doesn't BMW have Apple car play or Android auto built into the TFT?
All cars have now for 10 years, including BMWs

I think (personally) the problem is there are too many updates to those things in a fairly short period. I feel, like me and others want the latest bestest thing. As the current thing is still quite new its an easy sell at the right price. For example my BMW Nav 5 is sat in a drawer, its over 10 years old and I dont think even worth the time to advertise it.

I've had these:-
  • Carpuride 702B big screen, but annoyed no Whizz wheel integration
  • Chigeee 5" for the Wheel integration, but not a fan of the small screen
  • Carpuride 702BS big screen again and Whiz Wheel
  • and I'm now waiting for the Chigee 6" perfect size, whizz wheel and other useful integrations (from their promo bumpf)
Unless they have one after that with a built-in massager or something I'll be happy with that

My phone was in a waterproof case, still got wet. These devices are supposed to be waterproof. No camera issues and better screens.

would be handy as a bigger screen as blind and save the phone from wet
anyone tried the cheap 60 quid versions on ali or temu?

When they stepped away from their previous very good relationship with Garmin, BMW opted to develop their own navigation / phone interface. It’s not been without its teething problems but (according to the sub-forum) they seem to be getting there. At a wild guess, it might be that BMW use their own system, as it might give them access to data on how the vehicle is used day-to-day, which might be useful to them. There’s a lot of ‘mights’ in that sentence.

I’d sooner have my phone in my chest pocket rather than mounted in a clamp or on handlebars of a motorcycle. Especially if I am in a ditch and my bike is 20m down a cliff.
There is also a much more limited risk to having your phone snatched at the traffic lights (chances of this happening probably in single % digits, but still…)

I accept that we are all different and that we all like our own preferences. The above is just my outlook on a possible scenario(s)…
