Personally I find its the sodding Bmw key ring that does mine, only have one key on it and still scuffs it up. still, if you don't like it and it "boils your piss", makes you wonder who's the dick that bought a bike that annoys them so much.

Splitting keys is for fair weather riders - I want all the keys I use for the bike in one ring because when I ride it's normally because I've got stuff to do.

I have storage pouches in my clothing. I put my non bike keys in there. Maybe you city types haven't heard of them. I didn't realise they were a country invention. We call them "pockets".

I don't mean to be offensive but that really is bollox.

A rattling chain of keys is annoying to live with and the weight pulling o bathe lock causes damage.

I use my bike most days and also don't have time to faff about. My BMW key has a small steel key ring and the key bunch has a small carabena. It's actually easier to unclip the bike key and put the bunch into a pocket than to untangle the key bunch to get the key into the lock.
The ease of use and to avoid lock damage is largely why I went this route. Keeping the bike looking better was a happy bonus. It began with 1970"s bikes where the keys hang from under the petrol tank. After a while the worn lock would lose the whole bunch of keys. Unclipping the ignition key was a simple and easy solution.

Can't remember which bike it was,but I think it was a BM. The weight of the keys flayling around actually turned off the ignition whilst I was riding.

It gave me some concern for a couple of seconds,dipped the clutch and pulled in,it took me a couple of minutes to work out what had happened.

Let me enlighten you...

My bike keys
aside from the main key I have one for the tool box which contains items such as a stop and go repair kit, I also have the alarm fob and a Givi top box key.

Splitting those out to be re connected is a pointless time wasting task, I want to grab my keys and know I have all I need and when I get to where I'm going I want to slip the over suit of and stick it in the decent sized top box rather than the BMW one, I could use the panniers but they are in the garage which is where they stay because you don't want width when you've places to go.

If it's sunny I may not wear the over suit so I don't want to rely having stuff in pockets of a jacket that I may not be wearing...

My only compromise is a combination cable lock which I use if I need more storage space, it goes through the arm of my one piece suit and is locked through the handle bars sometimes it's marks the top yoke as I pass it through

this what you need for quick separation of keys. keeping my piss comfortably at body temperature

i would point out that the reason i do this, is that any more than one key is an utter bastard to get in the awkwardly placed ignition on my KTM.

I have house keys, office keys and bike keys all on one bunch with a carabena on bike ignition and another between bike and house keys. That way I don't leave home with the wrong set.

The car has a key card. Now that is a pain in the arse. It can't be put on a key ring and always gets lost into one pocket or another.

Had a look at a new R1200GSA FL(factory lowered) on Saturday.............Not for me as I'm a good 6' 4" but the 'Warthog' was sitting in the showroom so I had a wee look

Guess what?

It was keyless ignition!

What were those guys at BMW thinking of?

A short piece of fuel pipe on those keys will stop them scratching your top yoke..

I thought the yolk was fitted purposely for the keys to rub on. Are we saying it serves another purpose as well?
