Several years ago I read a report about washing down your bike with regular washing up liquid, dont do it!,it contains salt and degreasing agents that can adversely affect your paintwork and leave calcifying residue on all metalwork including stainless steel,I have always used shower gel or hair shampoo,if its good enough for your skin its good enough for yer bm.

Does washing-up liquid only have detrimental effects upon 1200 models?

(Stand-by for the , "nah, never clean it, just ride it, it's only a bike FFS" brigade).

Compared to the salt on the roads, I don't think you have much to worry about from a dash of Fairy liquid etc.:nenau

heard all that stuff about washing up liquid containing salt etc.

before poofy car shampoo was ever invented, that's all there was, so that's what was used. can't say i ever saw any evidence that it has any bad effect at all :nenau

ditto washing road salt off when the bike's hot/with hot water. all theoretical tosh IMO.

In the good ole black and white tv days the paint on a car contained large amounts of lead.. The new paint is EU, PC bollox safe.....therefore it is as soft as a very soft thingy...

Also, I don't ever wash, chamois or polish in circular motions as it will leave swirl marks...
But then, I am a bit of an.........
