Clocks stolen...

The glass on mine was smashed in my accident late last year, I got a quote for a new set from BMW and it was £580  So I started trawling ebay for a secondhand set and like everyone has said the best part of £300, but BMW do a replacement glass for it for £137 so I got one of them but getting clocks off was a doddle, so I'm gonna fit a Mirage 3 screen with the fixtures hidden after reading this!

If and when you do go for an MOT I found out that clocks are not required for a pass. If they are not present, MOT Tester will enter Mileage Not Available into the MOT computer.

I didn't know this. So if they can't check the milage and the bike has no speedo or rev counter attached are they just checking brakes, lights and emissions?

Seems strange that you can get an MOT without a speedo.

Yes it is indeed strange. I spoke with Cathy in Service @ Vines of Guildford, and that's what their in house MOT tester told her whilst I was waiting on the phone. We were all surprised !

Emissions test on a motorbike?

very sad thread

A very sad thread, I don`t like thieves as I`ve had my fair share of stuff knicked.

Is there anything I can do? I`m thinking some sort of `anchor` on the clocks then attached to frame via one of those lockable steel cables? If anyone has any ideas then please contact me.

i`m as busy as a loon nowadays (just finishing a 15hr day) but will try to find a solution to this if I can.

I have got a couple of ideas, I'll sketch them out

Hi Mark, I'm glad (and i'm sure lots of other's too will be glad) you came along. Touratech do a 'Cockpit Cover' that looks like it helps stop getting the clocks nicked. maybe if the edge where they go around the clock were to go up a bit this would stop access through this way and maybe have a lip on the underside edge to stop access there, just a thought. sorry i'm no good a drawings...

The TT one has a power socket on it, this would be nice but not essential as many have got power on the beak, maybe 2 styles, one with a hole so owners can fit a socket if needed the other blank, or maybe one design with a rubber grommet to fill the hole if its not needed.

I along with loads of others will now be watching and waiting with bated breath whilst you get your super machine warmed up ready for the new production of the 1200 cockpit anti theft surround. Please can i place my order now:augie:augie

Fella, kind words barely deserved. I hear (or read) what you are saying and some sort of `covering frame` might be a good idea. Normally I would jump on this straight away but FYI I got my GSA on Thursday, have done 27 miles on it to get it back to the workshop and have spent the rest of the time transferring stuff over

http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk/2014-r1200gsa-liquid-cooled-26-c.asp (unabashed plug)

for the lads who have pushed me for quick resolutions (its not just Nuts who pushes like f*ck :D) so I am really pushed for time. In fact i wouldn`t have got involved in this as I simply haven`t the time but I feel for the fella who has had his clocks nicked and if I can do something (not sure if I can) which stops another one of us getting f*cking robbed then I will feel I have spent my precious time wisely.

With a bit of luck the lads will get back to me with good ideas which I can try (I don`t know everything) and we will see where it goes!

ride safe fella

I have an idea.....................

Just give me some time to work on the design and I will hope to come up with something that might help some of us stop the f*cking oxygen thieves from stealing our clocks.

Could well be interested in something like this, having recently beome paranoid about a problem I wasn't even aware of until this feggin' thread!

The Touratech covers that fit over the support frame look handy but I cant tell if they actually give any anti theft benefit.

Sorry for my last post repeating the obvious. This phone is like decorating the hall through the letterbox.

I've just received the BMW headlamp guard for my GS and the instructions show the entire headlamp/instrument cluster can be removed by undoing two torx screws and a couple of electric plugs. Great for installing the guard, but not so good for security!

A short term fix would be some security torx screws. Not perfect but should have them move along to an easier target.

Changing the E-Clips

Yesterday I took the light and clocks off and changed the OE E-Clips for standard ones (£1.25 for 10 off eBay - they are 6mm). I have to say they seem a lot more secure as they sit flush with the rubber grommets and do not have a 'lip' for grabbing with pliers which is how the theif managed to remove mine so easily.

I also drilled a couple of holes across the end of the securing posts using a 1mm drill bit and lock wired them to the bracket. All in it cost me less than a tenner and took about 20 minutes to do.

Now I just need to figure out why my headlight no longer works and I have a headlight warning light showing on the screen. For adventure style bikes they do seem very temperamental

brill cheap quick solution fella - I`m still working on a `covering bracket`

Hope ya get ya light sorted soon - thats a bugger!

When halogen bulbs are getting ready to fail it doesn't take much of a shock to finish them off.

Great idea to fit E clips. If you can't get in directly to flip the clips out, a suitable flat screwdriver with the tip bent over will get them out when needs be.
