Clutch cable

Anyone used cables from other models with success?

Not tried from other european models but the nipples, trumpets and ferrules used on the xc cables are much larger than the standard japanese fittings.

It hasnt snapped (yet) so backed it off with some split washers for the time being, have a question pending with Venhill so they may be able to advise, thanks.

I had Venhill make me a custom clutch cable for the xc a month or so ago, if you get them to make one you'll find that the nipple at the clutch end wont have a nipple sleeve and the ferrule at the clutch end that slots into the cable guide on the casing is slightly too large and you'll need to rub/file it down slightly as the BMW is slightly tapered, its only 0.3mm or so out but it wont fit if you dont.

What were the main advantages of the Venhill cable, what was the customisation?

I suppose you had to provide the old cable as pattern, did they give the job a part no so I can reorder without them having to copy again?

For my particular cable i had it made 5cm longer to go with my bar risers and the lever nipple was smaller than standard to fit into an ASV shorty lever and perch and the inner free cable was 7mm shorter for the same reason, so it wouldnt be any good for the standard lever/perch anyway. i was also told that should i want another one i'll have to send in the old cable to get it replicated as they dont hold custom patterns on file ... strange but i got the same answer when asking about a cable that Craig Bounds had made for a short action throttle for his xc .. thought it would make my life easier than sending in my throttle and cable

Now maybe the time to get the cable sent then, as the exhaust bracket failed at the weekend and theres a new clamp on order for that aswell.
