Morning all,

I have a 1999 R1150GS with 68k on the clocks.

I'm finding that changing down from E to 5 can be problematic. Sometimes I can feel the gears rotating against the lever (if that makes sense) as it goes down the gear, occasionally it plain refuses to go in and pops back into E. Blipping the throttle can help a lot with this.

The bite point for the clutch is quite a long way forward (i.e close to lever being all the way out). I don't know if this makes any difference or indicates anything.

In a couple of weekends I have a day booked to fully service the bike and will be changing the gearbox oil then. But that's around 1,500 miles away.

Any suggestions, thoughts, opinions?

Check your clutch fluid level and colour, making sure its not overfilled or there is a seal problem.
Clean the gear lever pivot--they are known to gum up with crud and stick.
Ensure you use SAE80 or 90 GL5 gear oil in the box.

I shall check the first two today and bear the third in mind for the service. Ta!

Gears

Probably the gear lever has seized on it's pivot, means taking he pivot bolt
off which is locktied on and is tight so heat with a heat gun first to melt locktite, happend to me and I'd almost resignd to stripping gear box, when I just tried the lever and bingo all working again!. So don't dispair try the lever.

Wouldn't that mean that it would be problematic in all gears? Not that I am going to ignore your advice, mind - I'll be checking the pivot at the service (7th June).

Cheers
