So I just bought a pair of Mitas tyres for my Drz. Rear has a red stripe round it and the front has a green. What's that all about then, if you please?
Mitas has designed 3 different tire compounds which are intended for different riding applications. The tire compounds are designated by the following colour stripe:
Red Stripe: Standard compound with 3 textile ply layers. Suitable for motocross applications.
Yellow Stripe: Enduro compound that is softer than the Red Stripe; 4 textile ply layers; suitable for a wider range of terrain. DOT approved.
Green Stripe: Special compound with Kevlar nano-fibers; suitable for extreme enduro; lighter carcass than the Yellow Stripe; excellent grip on hard terrain. DOT approved.
I have just bought these grabbers for my truck.. coloured bands.. i asked the garage what its all about, they didn't know but said loads of new tyres have them now.
It's a modern, slightly more subtle version of the 'hanky code'
EDIT...fits in well with your 'wild stabs in the dark'...I think that's a white band and a brown one, depending on whether you're the stabber or the stabbed
