Comfy old boots bike service resto thread

Really enjoying this thread. I’ve been through a lot of the same problems you’re experiencing. Same bike same age. It’ll all be worth it in the end!!

Thanks pops. That means a lot. I know I said that before but it does.

I know the bike so much better and it’s my first time doing this.

Responsibly 😂😂😂

Have you got the ignition turned on when you're bleeding the abs pump with the GS911?
From memory, I just bled them normally and then ran a cycle front and back through the GS911 with the bleed valves closed.
Did you do this on the gs 911? Wondering if I can do this despite the unit being fecked? Think my brakes are solid - ran a half litre through earlier but until I ride…. Back brake is band on

You don't need to to part the actuators .
Remove the motor cover and free the brushes . Known fault with motors that have stood a while.
Thread on here somewhere on doing this.
I believe it is the same pump motor as a Ford Fiesta , not sure if it is MK7 or Mk8 again info on this site somewhere.
I’m going to look no thus

I’ll leave you with this until at least Sunday when I might do small jobs, I need a decent extendable ladder. Realised I love projects to do but I need a another project to dive into before I can finish one I’ve run out of steam with. I’m only mad for the painting decorating at the moment! Guess I’ll be back to the bike in a few months to do the fork seals etc. 👍🏻

I’m going in.

I’m hoping it’s the same on a very early 1200. I suspect it is.

Strange. I’m in 6th. Rocking the back wheel but can’t get the engine to ‘move’. Thought I should be able to bring it to top dead center? This indicate anything wrong? Or am I just too gentle? Going to take alternator cover off instead.

Stopped in my tracks again!!!

Left my blue roll out in the rain. Boo.

Interesting selection of bolts from the alt cover. The bottom one needs replacing - it ruins the aesthetic 🤣

The alt bolt is massive 🥹. Biggest socket I have is 30mm. The belt was changed not long ago and is in good condition and nice and tight.

Perhaps one of you could advise on moving the engine to TDC using the back wheel? It’s early so I don’t want to make too much noise 🎧. Any videos etc say you can just use the rear wheel.. thanks.

Might just get a 34mm in Halford’s when they open. Need a small feeler gauge for the end floats either way.

It’s a bit mucky doing this on the osb on the grass. The area where the washing line is currently, well I’m hoping to put a lean to over all that and do this in more comfort in due course. Have a nice Sunday 👍🏻 I promised herself I’d do stuff with her today so most likely pick this up tomorrow. Back at work Tuesday. Bit disappointed I can’t at least get the bike to TDC this morning.

Let’s the cats out. The bigger one has discovered the joys of tormenting the neighbours dog while sitting on the shed safe and sound. Good cat! Sensibly, they are terrified by seagulls. So am I to be honest…

I need to get a wrench and use that to turn the back wheel on my 1150gs to get to TDC against the engine compression. Essentially I'm trying to undo one of the rear wheel bolts, never loosens but obviously I check bolt is tight once I finish.

Even in 6th gear it just won't turn over by hand.

Having a cup of tea here. Contemplating💭💭💭

The two lower coils are getting replaced but the bottom right one is significantly more degraded than the left. So then I went back to my photo of the spark plugs and it’s noticeable that the lower right plug is significantly sootier and oilier than the other one. I guess that lower coil hasn’t been work right for a while. Wonder if the engine will run better with new plugs and coils. I’m a bit excited to find out!

It’s not just me so! Think I’ll just use the alternator bolt.

Use a large adjustable spanner to turn the alternator if you have one.
I’ll buy the 34mm if they have one but I’m off out to the shed to check my AJ as a backup. Thanks🙏 I had thought vice grips but didn’t consider AJ.

Also, my beautiful missis has let me go wrenching until lunchtime but made me promise to have the ride this afternoon, cook her a roast chicken for dinner with all the trimmings and watch the first episode of the new series of traitors Ireland tonight.

YES BOSS!

happy days indeed 🥰
