I'm putting together the parts for fit some auxiliary lights to the GS. One of the sets of lamps I have are Hella Micro DE fogs. They're not the usual ones which people fit to bikes as they have surface mount brackets and different caps on the rear...(see attached pic). I've managed to obtain the correct pendant brackets you can see in the pic but I'm stuck for the connectors for the lamps. I suspect they're OE ones on a car wiring loom.

Does anyone know where I can source loom connectors or fit onto the rear of the lamps? The plastic shrouds on the rear of the lamps have two small male spade connectors arranged thus - - which obviously mate with two similarly oriented female spade connectors in some sort of boot which clips over the shroud.

Also, I'm looking for armoured 12v cable to wire up the lamps. I'm thinking of the stuff that used to be supplied with KC Daylighters (remember those?). Again, does anyone know where I can source armoured 12 v, 10 A cable?

TIA :)

You could use armoured 240v cable, 2.5mm2 to each lamp would be fine, and it's two core so no need to do anything fancy with the armour as a conductor.

75p per metre from here http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Cable_Index/Armoured_SWA/index.html

plus VAT and shipping.

To get the ends sorted, just cut the outer back with a stanley knife, nick the steel wires with a hacksaw then bend them back and forth until they fracture and can be removed. Seal the armour ends with tape to keep water out.

Yes and thank you - I could but I'm looking for something a little more *bling*.....:o I saw some recently and now I can't remember where it was.....:blast

I'm thinking more along the lines of the externally armoured stuff that's supplied on KC HiLites.....

have a look round a diy shop, as its looks like the flexable water pipe in chrome

Yes, I know. I'd prefer it in stainless rather than chrome. Many years ago, I fitted large driving lamps and fog lamps to my Citroën BX on rally lamp brackets, I used the chromed flexi outer from shower hose to do the same job but I want something a bit less bulky for the bike.

You might try Eastern Beaver (Canadian living in Japan) www.easternbeaver.com He makes a line of Motorcycle Headlight Relay Kits and other stuff. If he doesn't have one that fits your needs, he might be able to make one up.

Thanks for that, it's an interesting site. However, the thought of me, a Scotsman, living here in Scotland buying connectors from a Canadian in Japan exceeds even my "going out of my way to get something" threshold....:nenau

Armoured cable

Armoured 12 volt cable for a bike!, now I've heard it all, what about a length of s/s brake hose and run the cable through this?.
Dave (electrician in real life) GS.

Not such a bad idea.....:) You're not an auto-electrician though, are you....? ;)

those connectors look like AMP connectors, if all else fails you can use normal spade crimp terminals, these are available in a small size about 2-3 mm wide..

as for cable, you could use 2 core flex, available in clear outer sheath with steel braided armour, most good wholesalers might have or be able to get some

You could drill through the vent and run the wiring through there, like I did on mine, but when I converted to HID I bought the rubber grommet end caps instead.

Or you could go to a scrapyard and find a car with the same connectors and snip them off. Volkswagen and Audi would be a good bet.

As for the bling bit you could probably get some cable wrap from a custom shop to wrap around the wire. Bit crappy I know.
