Considering a GS....read this

A ggod question

Why? What makes the GSA better?

It is heavier. It is taller. IIt is more expensive. It will carry enough fuel to keep you going non stop for about 4 - 5 hours. It has better weather protection. IF YOU NEED these options then buy it - it certainly looks more impressive than any other bike !!!

I will definately try the GSA for size but if it's too tall then would be very happy with the standard model, but i do think that the GSA looks the business.

gs 1200

they really are a great bike one up or two up.my insurance was reasonable ,but if you need to ask about cost consider servicing /replacement parts , ihave owned dozens of bikes over the years and still cringe at being ripped off by bmw. but as I said its a great bike.

you've changed picture perhaps ive hit nail on head

D'ya think I changed my avatar because of you? Ya think a lot of yourself now dunt ya. I change them frequently ... just to confuse people :pullface

Sat sipping a nice espresso reading the paper and looking at my 1200 GS black 2007 with 38k on it parked outside.
I am in Oxford BMW and the sun is shining (Last Friday).
In on a recall and BMW decided to replace the fuel pump under warranty.
After I bought it from Oxford BMW I noted my bike had a transmission rebuild in 2011 - I am the second owner having done 2000 miles since last July when I traded in my loved CBR1100XX for it.
All in all a great bike, corrosion limited to to odd bolt and very slight on the wire wheel rear hub but nothing much - seems like it was well looked after by the original owner.
Oxford BMW have been great - had one of the heated grips fail 10 months into the warranty - replaced without a fuss and the bike had a courtesy clean as well.
Full luggage set that came with it is fantastic - not done a big trip yet but looking forward to one when time permits.
Did around 400 miles the other day on a trip to Taunton to see my oldest when I decided to take a look at Exmoor - I would never have considered that on the XX - quick yes but too cramped and my knees would only put up with about 45 minutes on it before I needed to stop and stretch.

My only regret is not buying a GS years ago.
Don't believe I will ever replace this one - it will be my last bike but what a way to finish my motorcycling :beerjug:

I am at the moment taking training with DSAR and hopefully will get my gold.
But in 81 there were 24 of us locals riding, we are cut down to 3 now with only me riding.
Sadly nearly 10 of us lost their lives in one way or another on the roads.
So okay my card must be somewhere near the top of the pack and if I want to continue riding I decided that I needed to refresh some skills because through training I have learnt some bad habits.
Looking back now after some lessons I have to ask myself did I reallly do that.
I have ridden most types of bikes over the years and I like to hustle a bike but When I bought the RT1200 I was surprised how easy it was to hustle in the corners even if it had no soul.
Even my Tiger made a great corner bike and never let me down
So I reckon the GS will behave the same way you just have to become one with your bike and find it's limitations
I think my best bike has to of been the ZZR1100 D7 there was nothing I could not do to the bike working on it and I think that helps a rider.
I see out on the roads and in the shops that quite a few riders just ride in the summer months or when its dry by the number of low milage bikes for sale.
Its like they are bumper magnets coming up on you and staying with you ( I wanna be in ur gang ) or pass you when you are just plodding along making a big show of it as if to say see I can pass you.
My boss is one example firebludgeon only see the sun and ride balls out everywhere.

gutted

well having tried a new w/c gs a few months back I saw a 2011 1200 gsa for sale at piddocks n notts so went down and tried it out , found it very lumpy and rough when accelerating , not how I remember the other one which although was vibey I quite liked .so becoming a gs owner might be in doubt ,bugger ,

Why not try a different 12GS then ? It may have just been a glitch with the bike, poor fuel etc

on the road the GS is awesome although I know for a fact I would be quicker on a litre sports bike then my GS although the GS would be more fun :)

On a track I'll take the sports bike any day please. Bikes are all about confidence, skill, experience etc etc and to be honest sounds like you would of left him on a 125 let alone a GS, must say it is good fun going round the outside of a full race rep on the road with a frindly wave.

Have to agree the GS is very good but I'd definitely be quicker on the sports bike
