Took my 2014 GS LC to the Dealers today.Corrosion starting around cylinders etc,Bolts on footrest hangers and side stand. The rear Axle centre is rusty and the Gearbox is as clunky as hell.
Bike has done under 4000 miles,I bought it used 1st registered March 2014,I got it 1st July.

Dealers very good (so far) :D Sorted out warranty claim, photographed problem areas and current mileage on clock then said I'd hear from them when its gone through :thumb2
So far so good,I'll update soon as I hear anything. To all who are experiencing similar problems, thank you for all the posts they have been a great help to me :bow.

I'm now looking forward to the piss taking and sarcastic comments ;)

That's a lovely bike in your Avatar

You really should have kept that one, don't you think:D

I'm shocked. I bought a new one a couple of weeks later than yours was and there is not so much as a hint of corrosion, bubbling or other signs of dodgy finishing (other than the underside of the beak!). I've not applied any ACF50 and have only cleaned it when it was caked with dirt. How can BMW make one bike that has what seems to be a faultless finish and another that corrodes like a Suzuki after a winter of road salt, but in summer?? Not what you'd expect on a £14K bike - I would be livid (but give it time, maybe mine will gothe same way).

Further on Corrosion !

Further to my input t'other day about my particular WC, I received a call from my Dealer today asking what I wash the Bike with !!!!!
Call me old fashioned but doesn't this sound like a get out clause !! :roll eyes:
Anyway I explained that I'd bought the Bike used ( AUB= Approved Used BMW ! 1st registered March 2014 ) and that I have washed it once (bought it 1st July )and only got it mucky once !
I also explained that the corrosion was present when I bought the bike and it was pointed out to the Salesman at the time, where I said I would be monitoring it.
Ok I know someone will say I should have refused it but I had a trip planned and like a spoilt kid,I couldn't wait to ride it !:D
I hadn't really noticed it when in the showroom.
So,what happens next I wonder, will BUMW say I washed it in acid and the problem instantly popped up or will they contact the previous keeper and blame it on him ?
WHERE DO I STAND if things start going tits up
Watch this space (again):thumb2

Given I only rode it in the dry and washed it once with Johnson's No Tears baby shampoo, it is highly unlikely to be caused by caustic washing compounds - :blast

Oh dear ....... Their answer to this will be and I quote "the price you paid for the bike reflected the overall condition on the day you purchased it"

They've got you by the bollocks. Probably best that you hope they don't squeeze them too hard :blast

If corrosion was there when you picked up the bike, you should have taken pictures, and had it documented.:rob

I'd be surprised if you get anywhere with BMW.:comfort

Here you go JB :D

Thought you would be in yer garage fettling with a piece of pink card and some sticky tape ;)

Cheers mate

My kids are a bit old for that brand

I think the OP is screwed as he accepted the bike with the corrosion

Probably an ex demo left in the rain with salt on it ;)

Neither an ex demo or left in the rain, owned by me from new for 3 months and 3000 miles, I don't believe in the time I owned the bike it saw any rain and only washed once using Castrol Green Tech - :P

Did you own this bike Paul?

Presumably could and should still be rectified under normal warranty?

My Story.

Bought my Sept 2013 GS TE privately in March this year with 505 miles on it. Soon after noticed the specks of white corrosion between the cylinder heads and block , on the swing arm and final drive.

Not really bad but annoying on a bike with such low milage so took it to my nearest dealer who took pictures and sent them to BMW. I also got asked if I washed the bike with "Muc off" and was told BMW bikes are not compatible with this stuff. I don't because I think it's very expensive for what it is.

Anyway after a while BMW authorised a brand new engine, swing arm and final drive and just recently had them fitted.

I did think that they would just get touched up, paintwise, but no, according to the dealer they will be sent back to Germany for investigation.

Obviously, I am very happy with the outcome and I have a bike which is as good as new for a lot less than new retail. It also happens to be the best bike I have ever had.
