Hi...owned a GSA for about 6 weeks now and I've noticed that the welding points on some of the crash bars are starting to brown with rust. Is this normal? Is this under warranty?

Cheers Stu :nenau

There's a known issue with certain batches of bars. Inform your dealer and they should arrange for a new set :thumb

Talking to my local BMW dealer - this is a common problem and BM are now surposed to be getting in replacement crash bars that do not rust  . Leaving mine until the end of the summer and will then get them changed under warranty :thumb

There is a dealer bulletin from BMW to change the bars. Mine were changed at it's 6000 mile service.

corrosion

cheers...I'll probably do the same next time it goes in...It has to go in for a replacement side panel as something weird is happening to it....spidery lines appearing on the right panel...

Will probably get the aux lights fitted too if they put new bars on it :beerjug:

hi, is this definate as I phoned up my local dealer (Clarkes in Brum) this morning and they were unaware of this? Last time I asked them about the corrosion they said BMW's official response was "rub a bit of WD40 into the joints"... charming! just what you want to hear on a £12,500 bike!!

I beleive so - my dealer showed me the bulliten they had from BMW. If your engine bars are going rusty BM will change them. The only reason I have waited is to make sure that I get a later set of new engine bars which hopefully will not go rusty a second time.

ok cheers mate i'm in at BMW tomorrow so I'll progress with them and update the site as soon as I know anymore.

Makes sense to wait until they do a good batch! I had the lower R/H side replaced due to accident damge and the weld on these is not showing any signs of rust so looks like they've sorted it finally!

RUSTY CRASH BARS UPDATE

Well spoke to Clarks in Brum today and they agreed a bulletin had been issued in regards to this. However they weren't willing to order in my new set of bars until a further directive comes from BMW with more detail, apparently BMW will be writing to the owners affected and this will then initiate the process for getting the work done on the bike.

Just picked up GSA couple of days ago.

My bars seem ok but I've noticed some rust on the weld on the rear rack :

Anybody else have this ?

Bumping this thread as mine are rusty and now that Rydales have closed I don't want to travel bloody miles to be told "yep, the're rusty - we'll order you a new set for when you next time you visit us on a 220 mile round trip". :blast
