Corrosion

In 18 months, can you imagine how much trade in Ur gonna get.?
IF the salesman sees THAT he's gonna run a mile..
As will anybody who sees it in the showroom too..

18 months, where did that come from?

Why not 9 months or 27 months?

Could be worse......look at the adventure competition (no not an 1150).:D

The odd glitch happens but these are bikes built in big volumes. A few old 1150s on here are some of the scabbiest bikes I've seen so its nothing new. Corrossion, can happen to all bikes y'know.

Or even today...at least HO state this is only a UK reported problem, so there must be a big faulty spray booth with the union flag over it.
2nd GSA test ride booked for tomorrow, cheque book twitching:thumb

You are right of course, BUT how long did it take the 1100s and 1150s take to get scabby?

Just found this on my left cylinder. NOT happy!

It's a gasket face so both both faces in that 'groove' will have no paint on them, both metals I believe are aluminum.

Bare aluminum will corrode and the corrosion will start to creep under the paint.

The only way to have prevented this would be to paint the 'groove' with Silver paint after assembly.

The simple fact is, bare metal corrodes.... always had done and always will. Have you see how quick car disc brakes develop rust these days

I believe if you were to have wrapped your bike in cotton wool from new this would never have happened, so you only have yourself to blame really

I blame the Eu

Twas the directive on water based paint that started the rot literally :D

Stop complaining, as a willing member of bmw's product testing team your findings will mean that anyone who waits a year or two after initial launch will be getting a much improved product

My bike is March 2013 5000 dry miles and heated garage. Wd40 over the winter. Corrosion just like this on the right cylinder and also on the final drive. The dealer has photographed and sent to BMW. I've also written directly to BMW. Adventure bike corroding after 1 year, worrying. Need I say more. Will repost when I get a response from BMW.

I used to coat my 09 GSA in ACF50 every month and it was fine. I m concerned now as I just ordered a new one. Why do I look at this forum, it makes my piles worse, anyway, if it's under warranty sling it back t the dealer and moan. If it's not under warranty then sling it back at the dealer and moan. As previously said, shouldn't have to ACF50' but with our roads I guess we have to use something . You can borrow one of my big guns if you having trouble at the dealers , :D

Oh no. The bigger the better. With stretch marks like a road map and cellulite like orange peel.:thumb2 preferably with a wide load sign hanging from a huge butt:bounce1
