Cost of first service??

Hi all

As I'm picking up the GSA on Saturday, just wondering what the average price for a first service at 600miles should be? And what does it involve?

I'll probably rack up 600 miles within the first week, so will more than likely book the service for the following week while I'm there...

Both my 600mile and 6k service cost about £175 @ Cotswold.
Oil and filter then check all the settings etc.
2nd service the valve clearances were also done.

The annual inspection bumps the price up that'll be in the next one

Annual inspection should only be needed if you do less than 6000 miles per year.

My first service was £150, and I thought I'd been robbed! Some dealers will just charge for parts, and no labour, and others will do 50% discount on the labour. I've heard that Bahnstormer will not charge for labour, and have been known to throw the first service in for free. Use this as a bargaining tip, and your dealer may be open to negotiation.

I find it amazing that some people spend up to £12k on a new bike then start bitching about service costs Why does anyone think a dealer, or any company for that matter, will do something for nothing?

I am not moaning about the cost itself, my problem is that some dealers charge £90 and some others £175 for exactly the sane thing, without prior agreement of course. The same and even worse happens with bigger services, 24k above all.

Ring up the dealer and ask how much they will be likely to charge you.... you could also ask them what the work will entail..... you could even do it when, or before, you pick your new bike up.

Then ring up another dealer and ask them how much they would charge. Repeat as necessary, or until a week on Saturday.

It's getting near autumn, so business is slow. They will love to chat.

Haggle in advance, if you feel like it.

Go to underneath your bed, or wherever you keep your money, taking sufficient to meet the anticipated bill.

PS If you get a debit or credit card, you will probably not need to carry anything much more than a quid ever again.

Wasn't getting at you mate because you asked a perfectly sensible question.

As Wapping says, have a ring round to get the best price before you get the stash out

It's either bankers cheque from cleared funds, cash, or direct debit. I have 1 debit car actually, but its one of those pre-pay jobbies, so unless I put money on it, it can't be used.

I had a bad experience with some cloning a few years back, so never used one since unless in an emergency (hence the pre-pay card not linked to any of my bank accounts)

So no finance, loans, or anything else. The only finance I will be doing at some point will be a mortgage, and thats it.

Why delay? This matter was pressing on your mind at a quarter to three this afternoon.

You are wasting three days when you could be phoning.

You can't ride your new bike until Saturday..... and then you will be too busy, running it in and booking it in.....
