Crunchy feeling from FD when cornering

Hi,

I've had the new to me 2001 R1150GS for ~1000 miles and everytime driving the bike and tilting more than 5 degrees I notice a grinding feeling through the footpegs. FD and gearbox oils are not leaking and looking OK.
And it's still there when deactivating the clutch.

Is that normal? Do they all do that? Or is the bike in need of a new and a probably expensive part?!?!

What tyres are you using, Tourances and other similar block treaded tyres can give a "rumble" through the footrests when the bike is in a corner.

have a look at the font of wisdom, Steptoe has recently posted about testing the rear bevel bearing the paralever bearings. Have a look at this and carry out the simple tests set out here and this should put your mind at rest.

Read all of the final drive repair threads, both here and on ADVrider, buy a spare big bearing and seal and carry them on longer trips as a talisman, its normally the tyres I swear I have felt the lot, gearbox disintegration, driveshaft UJs on their last legs etc etc.

Ditto the back tyre. I'm guessing you have a significant flat line on it? Try coasting round a corner and see if it still happens. When you go really slow you can almost feel it riding the bumps in the tyre. I just changed a Conti that was doing it - you could see why if you looked at the tyre and the way the tread had worn

The tyre is a half worn Conti Trailattack.

During last winter did a gearbox rebuild so all of the back-end came appart. Everything was OK but the FD shaft had sprayed a little rubber into the housing.

The issue during cornering was before the rebuild and also after that.

So I hope it's the tire.
