Data in Morocco

In addition to my above recommendation
a bit of information on how to do it.

Get your eSim from Airalo, the process will install it ready but it will be inactive.
So you can buy in advance of arriving the country you need it for.
So if you bought a 7 day eSim, the 7 days only start when you start using it.
You will be emailed instructions when you purchase, but here's a guide.

On a Samsung/Android (apologies it's what i own, for an Iphone it will be similar)
swipe down and click the little cog top right the enter settings

you will see this (only yours won't have my dog on it 😁

choose "Connections" circled in red above
you will arrive at this next screen

Choose SIM manager as circled in red above.
you will then arrive at the screen you need below.

If you have a physical sim card you will see your normal sim at the top of this screen
if like me you are already using an eSim you will see it in the middle section like me.

At this point, if you have already installed the eSim supplied by the Airalo App you will also see it here, but it won't be getting used yet.
That's because the bottom section will be all set to your normal UK network.
Once you arrive in the country you got the eSim for, click these and change them to your NEW eSim.
If you want to make sure you dont get ANY roaming charges you can opt to untick on the right your UK network sim completely turning it off.
Now you will have to use only the new eSim for data and calls.
That's it 👍

Just as a side note, you can still use WhatsApp like normal even though it's obviously attached to the telephone number on the deactivated UK sim.
It will work just the same
So if you need to call someone just voice call over WhatsApp for free, and people can call you the other way free too 😉

Anyone tried buying a sim in Morocco or data ad on from ee?
I’m not sure if Morocco is covered but EE offer a Roaming upgrade on a month by month basis (turn it on, turn it off) as you require. About £11+VAT ish I think.
I’m still on a business contract so I’m not sure if it’s available for ‘retail’ customers.
I can turn it in and off through the EE App.

I’d certainly look in to that first rather than some of the options mentioned above.

Thanks, when I last visited Morocco with an ee plan I bought an ad on which lasted all of 40 seconds. I intend to by a local SIM card and will report back

Sorry, I probably didn’t explain very well. I don’t buy an add of of X amount of data.
The thing I buy is as your plan at home, but for one month.
Maybe it’s only on their business plans but it works very well. A one off payment per month, switch it on and off as you travel.

It’ll be worth checking it out for the time it’d take calling EE. If you can get it, it’s as simple as.

Just back from Morocco.
I bought a Maroc Telecom sim, think it was 50MAD, and paid about 150MAD for 15 GB of date.
Good coverage everywhere, I rode 2,800 miles and only once had no signal but ten miles on it picked up.
Most small shops sell them, probably best to avoid buying at the border, just s somewhere.top at a shop

Looking to buy an e-sim before I go to Morocco so followed the link that's been posted a few times and I think that I only see contracts for 120MAD per month for the "Essential" one, which seems to best fir what I think I'll need, so my queries are, how easy is it to cancel the contract, is it only for a month, or is there another option that allows a one-off payment?

Currently in Morocco and wanted a data only e-sim, but getting to that point has been a right palaver,

Maroc Telecom took payment a couple of weeks ago, zero emails, card payment has been questioned.

Thought I'd fouled up, so reapplied, got one email and then zero action, card payment to be queried.

Bought Orange esim, fast and easy to set up, but there's a problem with it currently so you get the odd kb of data, it's on the network but is useless. Currently getting that payment refunded by Orange.

Bought an Orange data + call + SMS package as they're ok, and it seems to be working!
