Just seen an article on the Datatool Trakking Adventure, which sounds very neat. It's not cheep but, living in London I do suffer a fair bit of theft paranoia. I think it could be worth the money just to ease that.

Wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with the Datatool Tracker. Also, any recommendations for somewhere to fit it in London or the SE.

I'm guessing it needs to be hidden quite deeply within the bike, to avoid it just being removed.

Presumably with this fitted, the bike would still get nicked if someone wanted it, but Datatool would tell you/Police (if there are any available to respond) where it is?
Of Course Datatool could put a 'Trakker fitted' sticker, in which case the bike would still go and get stripped in 10 minutes for £5k of parts to flog on.
For me, that wouldn't solve any theft paranoia and I'd rather the bike just disappeared and I got my payout.

My sister used to install Tracker onto high end cars. She says thieves leave them somewhere slightly inconspicuous, to see if there's a tracking system installed.

Whatever system you use make sure it is Thatcham approved, preferably with recovery option.

Serious thieves tend to put them into steel containers until they can locate the sender.

Here's the link to the article I read:

https://www.adventurebikerider.com/...=[UNIQID]&mc_cid=8e739fa1b4&mc_eid=0d335d6b98

They claim a 90% recovery, which is amazing.

I'd quite like to get my bike back in one piece with out an Insurance claim. Getting Insurance in London, without a garage is tricky and expensive enough. Any major claims could just make it un-doable for me. The last round of quotes I had at renewal time were crazy and some major insurers wouldn't even quote me. The combination of post code, no garage and occupation came up with 'Computer says no'. Quite scary.

I feel your pain.

I had (have) a Biketrac fitted my bike, it alarmed when the bike was lifted on to the verge - just a couple of metres. Biketrac tried to get me on the phone (while I was in the ambulance), texted and also rang my wife - can't complain.

Here's where my write off is, live.

Well, looks like it worked but sorry to hear about your spill.

Where did you have it fitted?

Unless anyone on here has a recommendation then I think I'll go with somewhere listed on the Datatool site.

I live in London. I use BikeTrac which is advantages over the GPS only trackers. The fitter was brilliant and came to fit the device.

Happy to recommend him to anyone that wants a professional job.

I have the trakking adventure on my Africa twin. Works well. You can set up geofences and get alerts such as reminding you to pay a road toll later, or whatever other uses you may have for it. If the bike moves more than 10m without ignition on Datatool will call me immediately. If I roll it forward in the garage by as much as 0.5m I get an alert (all configurable). Also has an app which works well.

Thanks All,

I've gone with Dave from Elite Motorcycle Services, they are a mobile service.

He's on the Datatool Website as a recommended fitter too.

Apparently, there is a new version of the Trakking Adventure called the S5. I'm not quite sure how it's improved, but apparently it is...

We'll see if it calms the paranoia and, more tangibly, if it reduces the Insurance premium.

Mine was supplies and fitted free with the Africa twin, and the subscription costs 9.95 a month, but does lower your insurance premium. Pretty good all round.
