Day jaunt to France

If it is pissing down then I am not going. I am guessing that might be an issue based on the quote above.

In all seriousness, if that is the case would you rather I drop out now? I was always planning on making a last minute-ish decision based on weather.

Don't particularly want anybody to drop out and there is certainly no need to yet. :beerjug:

Who knows what they weather will be like en France in a fortnight :nenau :D

It was, I hear, dull and grey in south east England today but quite bright across the water....

...why not take a view a week on Wednesday? :thumb2

Great, if you are happy with that then so am I.

I am as happy as a happy thing, "So happy together, how is the weather...."

PS Knowing if everyone is coming will avoid us hanging around the Texaco fuel station, wondering....... Tom, fill your bike up before departing Blighty, please :augie

I can't believe I am the only pooof who is weather dependant.

I might also back out. But that'll depend on:

  • Forex rates
  • how well Jenson does in Ozzy free practice
  • if there's been a lot of sunspot activity
  • if I suddenly have to find twelve quid for anything in particular

"A lovely prominence is visible on the sun's western limb today," reports Pete Lawrence who send this picture from his backyard observatory in Selsey UK:

In addition to the prominence, big sunspot 1054 is putting on a good show near disk center. The active region has a "beta-gamma" magnetic field that harbors energy for C- and M-class solar flares.

Monitoring is encouraged.

But thankfully there are no large coronal holes on the Earth-facing side of the sun.

Phew, that's a relief!

I'm now a victim of your anti-working class jibes. These are Sun Spots!!

There is a better than even chance that we will get split up on the train.

To make sure everyone gets on it, let's see if we can all meet up to say "Hello" between leaving Blighty and arriving in France.

To make sure everyone gets off the train OK (problems are not unknown in a group, not least if the door to the carriage jams) let's definitely regather in the Texaco station, on the left, straight after leaving the train.... Tom, that is not an excuse not to buy fuel - or do the weekly shop - before you leave the coast of England :D

For those that have GPS, I will post up the final Garmin route well before we depart.

For those without a GPS we can also use the drop-off 'marker' system, too. There are some roundabouts where it is perhaps difficult to drop off a clear marker on the entry / exit (I don't want anyone to end up as a French mascot) but I will do my best. We do not plan to use any motorways but if for some reason we end up on one, I will NOT drop a marker at the exit; it is simply too dangerous.

If anyone is unfamiliar with the drop-off 'marker' system don't be bashful.... sing out and we'll run through it on the train or at the Texaco station.

I will do some routecards in Excel, too, I hope.

It's not an organised trip and just for a day, but it's a good idea to have Travel and Breakdown Insurance, just in case the worse happens.

Similarly, the French police are very hot on:

Passport
Driving Licence (don't forget the green counterparty, too)
Valid Insurance

Les flics were running spot checks on the first roundabout leaving the train last Saturday. I wasn't stopped but they were pulling Brit's over, for sure. Why? I have no idea; because they can, probably. :D The Basque shooting of last night will probably make them jumpy, too.

Does anyone on the trip have bike-to-bike radio?

If so, what are the preferred frequencies?

Greg
