Day jaunt to France

I am feeling so pleased that I DONT have bike to bike radio! I expect someone will be planning to stop to change gloves when it gets a bit cloudy!:augie

The changing weather conditions this time of year makes it difficult to predict what is the best glove to wear! :rob

I understand, if only I knew who Tom is?

Everyone knows, Tom, surely?

Channel 4 on my Kenwood, from memory.

For those with other radios, Kenwood Channel 4 =

Main frequency 446.06875MHz
QT frequency 79.7Hz

I'm sure that if Wappers finds that there is too much foreign radio traffic on that channel, there'll be a last-minute PM to advise a new channel :augie

I'm sure that we're all looking forward to some fine French dining, but I think that the route should be amended to include a stop for Nouveau Cuisine - Tom can then pay his subs.

UPDATE

I went on a second recce today, with Robin of this parish.

Whilst England seems to have enjoyed a wet day, we somehow missed it all just across the water.

Though a little bit shorter, I am pleased to say the final route got the thumbs up from Robin. It works well and should suit the larger group better. I have attached it.

NOTE

(a) There was a delay getting off the train today for some reason or another. It's not uncommon though.

Can we all gather up at the Texaco station, please, just to make sure everyone is with us. It is straight after leaving the train, on the left.

If you miss the Texaco station for some reason, don't worry. You will come to the motorway in about three hundred yards. There is no toll.

Take the right hand CALAIS / BOULOGNE lane and then the first exit, which comes up within 500 yards, signposted GUINES. Follow the Guines signs and you will come back onto the route very quickly.

(b) The route is in three legs:

Tunnel to Cassel - 39 miles - for coffee.

Cassel to Cap Griz Nez - 56 miles - for lunch at 13:30.

Cap Griz Nez to tunnel - 17 miles - back to home.

Total 112 miles

(b) Once we leave the Texaco station, there is no fuel immediately close to any of the three legs.

It really would be good if everyone could leave England with enough fuel to do the whole 112 miles, without the need to worry.

(c) We have a reasonable amount of time to get to Cap Griz Nez but not oodles. It took Robin and I about an hour to get to Cassel, where we stopped for 45 minutes for coffee. There are more of us, so it may make the going a bit slower and we didn't stop at the Texaco station.

If we can be wheels rolling out of Cassel by 12:00 latest, that gives us 90 minutes to get to Cap Griz Nez. It took Robin and I 75 minutes today.

I can tell you it's a good idea to have a leak before leaving Cassel! :D

(d) The cafe / restaurant is looking forward to seeing us, for sure. We had a pretty reasonable lunch there today.

I have promised to reconfirm the numbers again on Wednesday evening. So any cry-off's sing out via the thread please.

(e) After lunch we could ride the mile or so up to the coast. England was lost in rain, today. Hopefully, it will be clear next week.

(f) I will be at the train by about 07:45, parked up by the tourist centre thing. 1200GSA, not too clean.

(g) DOES EVERYONE HAVE A GARMIN GPS?

Cheers,

Richard :thumb2

PS As you approach Cassel, the second level crossing is built like a tank trap. It's better than it was the first time I barrelled over with ChasMill... but still a bit :eek  if you are not ready for it. :D

PPS I know that Stu is staying over on Saturday night. Anyone else planning to?
