Another beta tester checking in - just ordered mine and delivery is quoted as mid April. I wanted a blue one but the wife objected and now it will be red, you know how it goes! ;)

Not another red one!!! I'm gonna call mine.....clitoris !!!!

Wife says, if I do, I may never be able to find it...:nenau

I was told Week 9 to the dealer for mine. Deposit paid early October.

Guess it depends on demand, how far up the list you are and how nice your dealer is!

Production planning uses information from orders already placed with Dealers including the 'requested' delivery date given at the time of order by those customers (not every customer wanted to take delivery of the GS in March).

Delivery dates can shift backwards and forwards depending on a number of factors: Demand, parts supply, production capacity, etc but there is no question of any concessions based on a Dealers personality! Of course, if there was, we'd have had all our bikes already!

We cannot absolutely guarantee a delivery date, especially for a brand new model - for some of the reasons stated above (and more) but recommend to all prospective customers that the earlier an order is placed the greater the chance is of having it by your required date.

Hope that helps.

As you know Pete . I actually placed an order with you guys Oceans BMW Plymouth. The week before it actually officially existed ,:thumb which we all found was a bit funny at the time:blagblah.
So i never got to chose a date when you were going to recieve mine.:blast
I assumed it was going to be sitting in that cabinet saying sold on the official opening day of the launch of the new bike. As i went through the process of ticking the boxes etc i realised that it was not going to happen and actually the date i was given corresponded better with my leave rota.

The very professional and friendly service,s ive recieved from ,Richard, Ian, Bill and yourself and the lads over the three years ive dealt with you and my old bike has been second to none. But i do feel im allowed to be
pissed off to say the least to hear my bike might be delayed on the delivery date from the 2nd April till the 18th all because they havent possibly made enough wire wheels:blast:anger::banghead::forry and i had already made plans for the following weekend travelling with the bike:blast:blast
Yes i know you dont hold sway over BMW UK and i am going to be one of many others that want wire wheels,, but that could turn out to be a very expensive oops on BMW part.
thanks for letting me have a rant

I understand your comments however.......BMW are a Multi billion pound company and do numerous new product launches every year - are you telling us they can't forecast demand based on feedback from dealers like yourself and historical data. This GS is new but they have been making them for a while now!!

My comment on the dealer being "nice" was tongue in cheek as mine's a great one!!

Hi Jon

Yes, they are indeed a very successful company (for good reason) and have a record second to none (probably) in carefully managing supply according to demand. It's a difficult to thing to get absolutely right - we actually sold out of the outgoing GS in September (and could have done with a few more!) but getting it terribly wrong can have a massive impact on the residual value of their product. Too much stock would inevitably lead to discounting (shhh, I didn't say that) and would have a detrimental effect on the future value of second hand machines. This is evidenced all too often in 'other' bike manufacturers offerings - how often have you seen 'last years model' still available 6 months into the new model year with savings of several thousands - you'd be pretty annoyed if you saw this just a few months after you shelled out near to retail.
BMW have also been surprised (albeit pleasantly) and/or taken aback by the demand for spoke wheels - the previous model usually had cast wheels so there was no real indication (significantly in advance) that the new production would have to be seriously ramped up to produce the number now needed!
We would always like more of a models like this but it's worth remembering that BMW supply to a world wide audience not just the UK. we also have a range of other bikes to sell and as successful as the GS is, we cannot afford to become a one trick pony, so to speak.
Anyway, to cut a long story short....
Oops! Too late :-)
PS. I know your tongue was firmly in cheek (but we really are nice guys!).

Regards

Peter

Hi Stevie

Thanks for your vote of confidence in the team - we are also disappointed that we are not able to supply your bike by the anticipated date and I know Richard has conveyed our apologies to you already.

It may not come as a great surprise but believe me, we would usually rather have the customers bike earlier too! The sooner we get it the sooner we get paid for it, the sooner you do 6,000 miles for it's service, the sooner we have the part exchange to sell, etc, etc. I recognise that you placed your order significantly in advance and we are very grateful for your business - Richard will be in contact shortly to communicate a token of our appreciation as gesture of goodwill and we will of course notify you as soon as the bike has landed!

Kind regards

I guess it's all about managing expectations!!

Right now I don't think I would like to be a product manager in Munich if it all goes a bit pete tong!! Which, I'm sure it won't.

My Dealers, Allan Jeffries, Bradford, have said my bike is now in transit from the factory to the uk and I should be able to ride it away on the 2nd March :D. It has wire wheels and they say all early orders are ok....the later orders will need to wait a while for delivery of the delayed wire wheels. They also say bmw have run out of left enduro footrests...although they have plenty of right enduro footrests :nenau . Roll on March :D
