Dilemma

I specifically asked My dealer how many payments should I make to secure your commission before paying off and he said it makes no difference to them as they don’t get any finance commission

Fair doos then :thumb

Only my take/input/anecdotal jibber jabber on this, all the advice already posted is good and I would not argue with any of it (even if it was wrong!).

However a mate of mine, who was totally disgusted with BMW (to be fair had purchased some awful Friday afternoon beemers, awful luck - it does happen!) after many years bought a Suzuki V Strom (yeah, I know guys, but at £8k all in they are cheap!). he then spent 20 mins on my R1250.

His new R1250 arrives in a few weeks..............

I don’t think anyone would be surprised at that outcome . I mean how old is the Vstrom now with nothing more than a facelift a year ago . I think that engine powered the Tiger Moth, and loads of stuff since. If he tried my V4 CT it would blow his Vstrom into next week in terms of ride, performance and build quality. If he wanted a cheaper GS alternative he probably should’ve tried a Super Ten instead , or mine or a Tiger.

Now to the big question ; How much was the cost to change on the Vstrom, I bet that was scary? eek :eek

That was funny ‘Tiger Moth engine’ - as it happens I rode a mates old v strom about a decade ago and no, I don’t think the engine has changed! I’m very keen to not be seen as a V Strom basher so I feel that I will have to fairly give both negative and positive (personal) opinions but for sure the latest one looked b*stard ugly and as for the lambda sensor sticking out the front - what were they thinking????? On the plus side if you can get over the fasteners being made of rusty blue tack then what a bargain! Bizarrely I still make spacers to stop the engine clunking when selecting first gear. And also to be fair the uk strom club, which invites me to their annual ‘rust fest’ (as I call it lol) each year are a great bunch of lads and cheerfully take a whole weekends light hearted slagging off me. And yes I’m sure your CT would blow a strom out the water but nonetheless for the price it’s good value but not everyone’s bag.

Despite how it sounds I’m not knocking them either , honest , I was just saying that the Beemer is a brand new motorcycle costing double what the Strom costs so I’m not too surprised he preferred it :P

If I test rode a 1250 I’d probably want one too but if I part ex’d I’d probably have to put £10k towards one to get close to the same spec as my CT and the GS isn’t THAT much better than what I’ve got. For the same money I could by a nearly new Africa Twin ADv Sport and keep the CT too :thumb

Yeah I do agree.

I really had to get a 1250 as I needed to design new parts for it but TBH I did advise someone (who asked for my advice) to think very carefully before changing. It`s a MASSIVE amount of money - yes it`s a much better engine but I`m not too sure if I had done it (if I did not have to) as I`ve since seen some awesome deals on the outgoing model.

Well then, the test run never happened as it’s colder than a witches tit and the dealer wasnt keen on me crash testing a new 1250 so playtime is postponed for a week!
