Disappointment

I have to say that i am rather disappointed with the nuts/bolts on my brand spanking(3000km) bike. They are coroding it looks like!! and rust on crash bars ..well!! I keep the bike clean like a good boy and i did not expect this to be honest.....I read about the stainless steel kits on here..Are these nuts/bolts that replace the shite I have on here now???? Is it a case of just swapping them over?? If so think i should buy some...

Expected a bit better from BMW to be honest

Any Advice Please??

Mind you......quality control and product pride ended with the last 1100 to be built.

I was spring cleaning my 1100 at the weekend after using the bike all winter and thankfully no rust or corrosion yet. The bike is now six years old. I must admit if I bought a new BM I'd be treating it with ACF-50 from new. I think the consensus is that the finish of the new BM's is rather poor overall.

However does not really answer the question about the Stainless Steel kits....Is this exactly what there designed for?....Because BMW are shite? Or ?

Does Not happen on the 1100's you say....Why would i want one of them anyway Because the nuts/bolts look nice??? Thats about it

Only Joking. Has really peed me off though. Just would like a way to at least try and prevent it/slow it or stop it..

Yep, no rust both on ma 1100s, 8 years old both and me very dirty bawsterd mostly not cleaning the bikes - top finish material and build q

I think the comment re the 1100's is not that you should step back in time and buy an 1100 over a 1200 because of some rust, but that most people are aware that the finish of BMW bikes has deteriorated over the years. Stainless kits are available for most bikes, I have full stainless nuts/bolts etc on my 1977 Z1000, not just because the originals were poor but because I use my bikes in all weather including Scottish winters. If you are worried about corrosion you can treat the bike with an anti-corrosion treatment as I mentioned, buy stainless, or complain to BMW and have the corroded items replaced.

p.s. I'd still say the 1100 is a better bike than the 1200 in many respects

Seems a shame thats all that a company like BMW put shite on their machines. Mine is not too bad at the moment but it has appeared in a short space of time and can only get worse. Could moan to them but they MAY only replace with the same shite...

Looks like i need to keep an eye out and treat them as you say....Am i right in saying that Steptoe is the man to approach ref stainless steel kits???

Do a search for ACF50.

Don't get an 1100, some of them are prone tp paint problems whereby the original colour turns to some puce shade of green.

Good ol' soap and water, making sure i dry off all the nooks and crannies (rust). It seems the bolts in the braking system are looking the worst Engine bar area not to good either.... ACF 50 I will do a search now..Is it any good? Like i say the problem is not to bad at the moment but i can see it getting worse...

Depends on what you call corrosion, I have had my 1150GS for about 15 months now and have ridden it all year round. Sure the shine has gone from some of the fittings but I have not noticed any rust yet.

Previous bike was a Triumph Tiger, nice bike but it did have orange rust on parts after one winter.

ps i wash my bike once a month whether it needs it or not...

Had my 1100 for 64000miles and 9yrs, only 64K cause always had other vehicals, was in bloody good nick when sold, with little TLC lavished upon it, definatly better finish than the 1150 i now have, 1150 is only slightly better bike too! Which makes it a great bike, obviosly, where's cheepest supplier of AC-50, and is it as good as they say? regards Dusan

Well it will all be on warranty...Not only that i will be buying another brand new £7000 there about or less (£6850 my current ride) BMW every 12 months tax free For instance my bike with just about everything i bought for it will be for sale in Feb 07.

Answer to above...i seen ACF50 on nippy normans £20 for two tins i think it was.
