Discounts on LC GS

Accessories might not be the place to negotiate the biggest discounts.

Clothing, including helmets, gloves and boots, there is a better mark-up......They won't be losing anything if they gave you 30% or more.

It goes without saying that the initial post-running in service should be negotiated in as a free one, and there's no harm in asking for the next one free either, even if it's only for parts FOC, labour charged.

Despite the fact that many dealers will be under instructions not to discount bikes (so as to not undermine confidence across the board etc) there will always be wiggle room in other areas, and it can't hurt to ask :thumb2

Really? Is this a genuine fact?

Anyone know how many dealers they have worldwide?

The 2012 figures have been released and Mottarad broke through the 100,000 unit barrier so that is 500 plus per working day, this was also confirmed on the GS launch vids released last week.

Fine if that is your way of looking at it, no problem.

For me vat is a fixed percentage that reduces in aggregate as the discount increases so I just like to see it reduce!

Seems an unnecessary complication.

I I buy as part of my business I am only interested in ex VAT as I can reclaim the VAT.

If I buy private then I want to know exactly what I am going to pay so need the VAT included

Doing it your way is a bit like going to Makro. Prices seem cheap until you get to the till and actually pay

Give it a while to see how things turn out.
  • The Euro is staying stubbornly high even though we know the whole project is pants.
  • The Yen is depreciating so Japanese bikes should get cheaper.
  • many of Germany's markets are in recession so Germany looks like having flat growth this year.
Germany will be feeling the economic pinch but how much(?) and when will it begin to bite?
On the other side, the USA seems to be picking up and China might not be crashing, though who really knows with their central planning fiddles.

Interestingly the markets that the GS sells well into by rank are something like

1. Germany
2. Italy
3. USA
4. Spain
5. Brazil

So 3 of the top 4 are in recession, the German demand fell off a cliff for cars in December so bikes , as a non essential leisure item, should follow.

The GS has been no 1 seller in the Italian market for some time but that market is predicted to be down 25-35%, the Spanish are down 35-45% blah blah.

Tough times. New products are the way forwards but if the customer has battened the hatches down then it is very tough.

Interesting thread. I put a £500 deposit down on a TE immediately after Intermot, and I have been meaning to get into the dealership to finalise the deal ever since the prices were announced. Haven't quite managed it yet but all things being equal should be there at the end of this week. Will report back.

Cheers
Jimmy

:thumb interesting thread as to what to do I've also been told ,my bike fully loaded panniers etc is £200 short of 14.k
Now what with it being the first and probably the last thing I ever buy new, and I personally couldn't sell a stick to a blind man , I'm every dealers dream:blast
So any advice before I pay the outstanding price is where I should be seeing what I can get thrown in
So what do you lads suggest go for the free services fannum:rob
Or % off other add Ons
Any advice would be appreciated
:flag

So all this talk of 'get your order in early' because we'll be sold out could be a huge myth

Good marketing

The new 12GS will never sell out, but from what I've heard, each dealer will have an initial allocation, then once full production is resumed, stock will filter through as it always has done.

Some people (like me:blast) will want to be one of the first to get their hands on one, and will be aware that they would be able to get a better deal in a few months time once the hype has died down a little.:blagblah BUT, if you can negotiate a deal that you are happy with on a launch model, then go for it.:thumb

Some people are good at negotiating, some are not.:comfort Either way, BMW won't be bothered, as they'll sell these by the boat load.:beerjug:

Stevie. First have you asked your dealer what his best offer is? He will likely say 'what do you want' Say 10% off the bike and accessories ( or leave out talking about accessories untill you finish the bike talk). He may laugh or make an offer. Whatever say, thanks but I have others to talk to and shake hand as you get up and walk away.......you must walk away. He will either say stay and lets do a deal or call you next morning.

Now as preparation call other dealers and convince them that you are buying a bike NOW GIVING DETAIL SPEC. Ask what is there best offer. They will typically ask you to come in ( some don't and will deal on the phone/net) and ask if you can order today. Say yes. Do the deal and either place an order or say you have others to talk to and walk away.

You now know where the market is for you so you can 'help' your preferred dealer get to the numbers if he wants your order and he will want your order.

In my judgement you need to act now as there will likely be a small surge of orders as the reviews leak out from South Africa over the next 5 days or so.

Remember it is firstly a numbers game to the dealer and a people game second.

Your their best friend as you can give them what they survive on.....orders and cash!

Above all you have the power to place an order where you choose, they have the goal of taking the cash out of your back pocket.........nothing wrong in that!

ps you can get your deposit back from the dealer. They are obliged by unfulfilled contract as circumstances have changed significantly since the deposit........prices, bike spec , the deal, test ride etc

There is no "genuine" reason for any dealer making that statement.

All they are saying is: "We want you to commit to buying the bike - up to 4 months early"

One dealer did state that on here - as if they were showing some alegance to UKGSer members.......

Steve, at the end of the negotiating you have to be happy........nothing wrong with paying the price.

Yesterday I went into a dealers to buy a HD, I've never owned one and it will complete my biking experience, and the salesmen danced around the issue and made me a derisory offer given the Price point.......they are very expensive touring bikes.

Eventually I walked out but he was rightly convinced I would buy a HD.

He phoned me 3 times today and tried every which way to get me to tell him what he had to do to get the order,,,,,did not try so hard when we were face to face,

Eventually he said are we £200 out or more?....look your significantly higher priced(they are).....silence,,,,,,eventually I said. look, you decide the price. Would not do it so I turned the tables, would you deal at £200 or more than that? He would not take a position .......

Always probing for the price point. Good salesman.

So by walking away I have been offered more, certainly the signal is more than £200.......and until we have danced some more who knows where the margin is.......£500, £1000.......'free' panniers......it is a pain and needs time, they have all the time in the world......no hurry.

So are you actually going to buy a bike, or is it a hobby to go round all the dealers to see what discounts you can get on bikes that you have no intention of buying?:augie

My GS arrives in March, built week 6 or 7. I have ordered a CVO Road King but HD cannot confirm build. Will likely sell my K1600

How about you?

Yes, big load of claptrap from Harley dealers because, I think, they are thin on the ground and have a oligopoly but they claim residuals are high because discounting is modest. You do see some very high mileage bikes at ridiculously high prices . If you buy at the season end then you will get a big discount. I got 5%. Plus 20% on accessories . Free fitting.

My K1600GTLE has poor residual due to its 'high' mileage......only 11,000...... according to the dealers it should be at 6000 miles.

My 1200 TE is expected to arrive week 11, but I'm hoping it arrives early:thumb
