Great area that.

I’d strongly recommend the town of Gorlitz.

It straddles Germany and Poland.

The German Altstadt is beautiful, used for many many films, including the bell tower sniper scene from Inglorious Basterds

Many Germans nowadays especially the younger generation will speak a bit and generally they are helpful unlike the French.....
Ghent & Bruges....well I'd personally skip, especially Brugges which is tourist trap and to me not worth the effort espeically traffic etc.

I can count to 30 and order a beer in German but I’ve never had any language difficulties in Germany

Gorlitz, is on my list of places to see, next time I wander east of the Elbe. I’d also like to visit further north, where the Polish First Army (amassed with the Russians) crossed the Oder, as a part of the massive operation to secure the Seelow Heights.

You can walk across the border on a pedestrian bridge, lovely bars on each side.

Accn is cheaper on east side.

The old square is a must see.

Excellent jaunt so far, visiting places and areas where few Brit’s (let alone UKGSer’s) venture to.

Me? Now you’re there, I’d scrap the notion of Cochem and see some more of the northern side of Germany.

I’d suggest getting yourself to roughly Eisenach:

In the ‘Green heart of Germany’.

As you come towards the area, the low rolling hills start to appear, very different to the flat land you’ll have been enjoying on the Baltic coast and into Poland.

Cochem, is nice but won’t go away any time soon. In my view, it’s best rolled into a jaunt of the wider Cochem area.
