Doc the Boss and the Indian does France part one.

I like Doc’s way of travelling, especially when it’s through an area you don’t know too well. Buy breakfast in a bakery, then find somewhere to stop to eat it. Buy and eat lunch the same way. It gives you great flexibility.
Indeed. There is nothing wrong with a flask (or a jetboil) of tea/coffee and a pastry from the bakery. Same goes for a sandwich. Means you can find a place (in Doc’s instance a curb or a stubby wall) that suits you and to be sat enjoying the surroundings.
Sometimes, the hotel breakfast can be overrated and/or even overpriced.

I quite like to pop into a supermarket and grab a few bits. At least I know that:
A: it’ll meet my dietary requirement
B: I can make my budget go a bit further
C: I get to discover a picnic stop and enjoy my surrounding, instead of being sat for example at the cafe surrounded by 30+ people. For some latter scenario is ideal. But then we are all very different.

Why would you want a 5 hour/260 mile ride to Portsmouth/St Malo ferry to get 5 miles from St Malo when you can have an 8 hour/ 500 mile one from Hull/Rotterdam one ?

Picturesque autoroute and some lovely bridges etc

If Doc had left Slawit this morning he could have caught the overnight Portsmouth/St Malo ferry tonight and be there in the morning instead of a three day slog through wind and rain .
If Doc is owt like me or the others I ride with we try our very best not to ride south. Unless pushed for time (as we are next month) then it’s the tunnel.
We all much prefer to go Hull Rotterdam as it misses out the worst part of the whole trip.

Agreed. No hardship riding down here. Yes weather was a bit rubbish but it happens.

We used to ride down to Dover every year to go to chimay and did Sheffield to chimay in one hit; the mates from cornwall would do Hayle to Dover to chimay in one hit; but that was in the days when staying at the bikers loft on the way back was all part of our jollies; once the loft finished we used hull and the cornish lads used Portsmouth Le Harve and rode across France. The ride to Dover is a fuckin nightmare regardless of the time you set off these days.

Although you would have ridden 500 miles plus though fairly boring scenery to ride 100 miles around Brittany before 500 miles back again .
A ferry to /from St Malo would have saved you 6 days riding and given you time to explore most of Brittany rather than just a headland or two .

But as long as you are both enjoying it . Shame weather is a bit pants .

Up until recently I would have agreed with you about the ferry. However, the ferry from Hull is getting expensive now.
I live 40-45 minutes away from the Hull ferry terminal so it’s close to me, but I’ve used the tunnel a couple of times recently.
When I went on the ADV350 last year it only took 4 hours to get to the tunnel.
BUT. the cost was MUCH cheaper than than a ferry from Hull even when taking into account the mileage, fuel etc.
P&O are gradually pricing themselves out of the market.

I was going to say something, but did not want to spoil the thread.

What the fuck; where's yer funny bone gone; have you given it the day off or is this some kind of insider thing going on; :nenau
Wapping will soon be over with his mighty broom, to sweep up some unnecessary mess that is lot create.

I am not 🤧🤒 but still have my funny bone 😉

Anyway, back to Doc’ ride report.

He and his lass doing a good job of it (I think 😝) despite having to endure less than favourable weather 🌦️ conditions.

Excellent . Try the sole meunière .

What’s the tide doing ? Got a balcony ?
@Doc beware they give you some rather unusual cutlery with that dish to use. Unless it is a different restaurant to the one we were at just a couple of weeks ago.
