What happened to the 1150GS you let me borrow? Did you sell it?

Sold it -with 99600 miles on the clock - i was hoping to be riding it when it reached the magic 100,000 miles.

Put it up for sale expecting it to take a long time to sell with that high mileage and it sold the next day  - which wasn't in my plan :D

Proud owner of 10 plate GSA, purchased 2nd hand privately with 90 miles on the clock. It has every concievable BMW extra panniers/top box and waterproof liners, alarm etc etcetc plus some TT toys! I paid £11495.

There are bargains out there, some people must have more money than sense

Still get hammered at part ex time though, just not as severely - I bought a K1200S for £8995 in 2006 which was only 4 months old with 1500 miles on the clock. List price would have been £11,500. I still lost £6900 in three years and 22,000 miles when I part ex'd it last November :blast

At the end of the day bikes are a luxury for most folk and unless you're buying them 5+ years old and keeping them a few years, it's going to cost a small fortune in depreciation :(

I bought an R65 new in 1980, cost with extras was £2149.

I've still got it and it and a one owner from new bike of that age must be worth at least a £1000.

Depreciation of £40 a year.

Plus in a few more years it'll start appreciating.

The ultra low mileage R100GS i bought years ago has more than tripled in price what i paid for it :D

£2k in 1980 in Glaxo shares you would get a yield of 7 fold:augie
I "lost" 20k in 3 years on my car:nenau . Best purchase was a 2 year old 1200RT with 600 miles that I run for one year and sold for a profit:D
You only "lost" cash on something if you sell it.

Good thing you sold it before it reached the magic 100,000 mile mark. A friend I stayed with in Virginia was bragging about having just put 100,000 miles on his 1150RT with no serious mechanical problems. Several days later his final drive failed. After fixing that, his transmission imploded. :blast

.

But you can't ride around europe every summer for 8 eight years (like i did with the R65) on your glaxo shares.

Unless you are a millionaire ... DON'T EVER BUY A NEW BMW

Buy second hand and PRIVATELY

OTHERWISE IT IS JUST :anger:

:(

5 BMWs now and it is getting worst and worst as BMW goes mainstream.

DON'T BELIEVE THAT SHIT ABOUT BMW DEPRECIATES LESS THAN JAPANESE BIKES .. THEY DEPRECIATES JUST AS MUCH IF NOT MORE THAN JAP BIKES!! :rob

Had 5 gses now never lost money on any of them mind you never bought a new one( have bought a new tenere will lose on that)

Having never ever owned a brand new vehicle of either 2 or 4 wheeled variety I don't understand why anyone would buy one new and be surprised when it lost a Grand or 2 in value the second it rolled down the road from the dealers

It's not rocket science: when you buy a £10K bike, you're paying almost £1,700 to the tax man.

Buying a 3mo old bike with low mileage is a great way to avoid paying VAT :rob!

Hear, Hear

as was told to me by someone :

Never borrow money on a depreciating asset as it'll cost you twice in the long run.

Maybe career advice should be taught at school ...

For a man who worked for the BEST F1 engineering company in the whole wide world .. but couldn't make it and has to goto the other side of the world to use his skin colour to get a job for a Chinese company (the type of folk you have absolutely no respect for as they are immigrants in Australia and you are an expat)

INTERESTING!! :blast

If you were a human being of any value you would be a successful engineer at the world best F1 engineering company in the world but alas you are a :) so you had to immigrate to make a living! :comfort

Oh well ..... I lack home economics skills and you lack skills ... I will take that! :JB

You diarrhea of a human being :mmmm

Tom, Thought about deleting this, but I think I'll let it stay, as you're obviously not accepting advice Bryn

Tom, you just don't learn do you. If you have to resort to personal insults then it is clear you have run out of ideas. If you have any sense then you'll go back and edit out your offensive and unnecessary remarks.

Bob .. there is a difference between misunderstanding and a fundamental conflict in world views.

I am sincerely sorry if you are upset by my comments. I have absolutely no beef with you.
