Hi
I have just acquired a DR350 which is more than a little bit of a basket case. It has 30 odd thousand miles on it but whilst lacking in compression it does not make to many untoward noises or smoke. Anyway this is my winter project with a view to some green laning, maybe some rallies and even considering a trip or two for some expeditions to northern Spain and Pyrenees when complete.
Regarding the motor, as a matter of course I am going to do a complete top end re-build and extensively check the crank for excessive play etc. The question is: is it justifiable is pulling it right down and splitting the cases and replacing all bearings etc. I have done this on many a two stroke but not a thumper. Experience tells me that some of the bearings can be oddities and expensive from main dealers only. The only reason I am slightly hesitant on ripping straight in is the need for the specialist tools required to split the cases, on two strokes I have always got away with a small 4lb lump hammer
.
If anybody has any experience of this motor etc I would appreciate to here your findings.
Cheers
