Drive Spline Greasing

My Staburags has arrived and finished off my final drive job today, got plenty of it, so applied liberally, will split my 1.2 kilo down into smaller amounts in the NEW Year and post it up on here for a good price, for anyone else who wants to do there own, I need to get some small sealable containers, if no takers will do it on Ebay.
(The white stuff is the Staburags:)

It’s good that you have plenty to use and that the amount you have used is fine with you. Just a comment… as the photo only shows a birds eye view, I’m unable to determine if you have also pasted what I would call the pressure contact areas of the rubber boot as it attaches/mates to the drive shaft housing. It is this area I believe which is important. So, apply it there and to the mating area inside of the drive shaft too. I don’t believe Staburags will adhere the boot to the shaft housing… it just looks like you’ve applied it thinking as though it would.

My 1250gs was serviced today and I asked for the drive splines to be checked (12,000 miles). Splines were well lubed by the factory. :thumb

Plastered on both ends, all contact area's thanks :)

I checked mine today…all dry easily came off.

I used high moly grease on the shaft and silicon grease on the rubber. My rubber seal obviously had been protecting the shaft as no water ingress and no rust anywhere…BUT…under the rubber lip was a mess and starting to bubble the paint . At some point I will take it all off and strip/repaint. My conclusion is that in good condition the boot will protect the internals but some coating under that lip should be present to stop water trapping and making a mess and that will be the purpose of a good lather of appropriate grease.

I am sure this is a daft question for a reason I am not aware of but would a coat of silicon sealant do the job?

Would it be a bit permanent and a sod to remove?

As a reminder, this is where we left it.

If you want this thread to go away, leave everyone to get on with it. A yes it is, no it isn't argument doesn't last long if there is only one side. Neither side is going to change their minds.
I am sure it will come up again............
This thread turned out well for those Rose tinted types ,as I said before BMW has form ,they are not your best friend they exist only to extract as much money as possible.
