Dumb question No1

Behind the left hand side panel appears to be a relay that has a permanent 12v live going to it, live even with the ignition switched off.

Can I wire in a permanent Optimate lead here or, will this electrickery canbus wizardry throw a wobbly and tantrum if I do so?

Dumb answer no 1 don't know about the specific bike but it looks to me as if there are 2 big wires 1 will be from the battery and 1 to the component it operates. The 2 smaller wires are to control the relay so I can't see you would have a problem joining into the larger wire via a fuse.

Oddly the large Black wire appears to be earthed, well it is when the relay isn't live. I think I will run the live to the large Red one and an earth to a suitable earthing point.

Why not wire Optimate lead straight to the battery

Just wired my optimate lead direct to the battery terminals.. and it works fine...on a Hexhead

The other wire is showing as earth as the component it operates will be earthed out.

The terminal with the red sleeving showing is live, hook up to that

Its really well explained in the handbook! Probably a good starting place to get a feel for how the electrics are laid out before you go experimenting too deeply.

Optimate lead best & safest to connect to the red jumper cable with the red sleeve on the opposite side of bike to the relay you pictured.

If you want switched power supply that goes OFF when ign is turned off connect to the black wired terminal on relay pictured.

But don't back feed these with optimate etc..

Excellent, so I can use that as my live feed into something like a PDM60 or Fuzblock, or even do away with that all together as this is then a relayed circuit direct from the battery???

I'm assuming this is "ok" as the circuit will only take what it needs, not all that is there??
