After a recent update I now have 2012.4 map on my device together with the 3D addition (gmap3D.img). Updater also said that I've got junction view. MapSource has the same 2012.4 map version installed.

As I have never used or seen 3D or JCV features in action my dummy question is - how do I check if my device would support them and how would they manifest themselves? If I draw a route in MapSource from A to B and if the route passes through an urban area will I suddenly see 3D buildings on the screen?

3D buildings only appear in major towns and cities. They need to be enabled (they are by default); Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info. Then check the box next to the 3D mapping.

IMHO it's worthless eye candy and I've removed it from my 660.

Junction View briefly shows you a pictorial representation of an approaching junction. Somewhat more useful but only available for major motorway junctions. Thought mine was broken but a few appeared recently in Europe and in the UK so must still be there.

Think that might not be the most recent update , on to 2013.1 now AFAIK:hide

To answer part of your original question, yes - the Zumo 660 supports 3D buildings and the enhanced Lane Assist (called Junction View). Although you haven't specified that you have a Zumo 660 I've assumed that to be the case given the subforum you've posted in.

Pablo1 is also correct, 2013.1 is the current version of the maps for Europe.

Dae.

Sorry for the hijack but anyone know if its possable to disable the lane assist, find it a bit distracting and if its sunny cant see it anyway..

Lane Assist and Junction View are two different things, though with similar purpose. The former is a simple graphical symbol displayed in the corner of the screen with a number of arrows indicating the lanes and the correct one/ones to be in. Junction View tries to take this a bit further with full screen representations of the view of the upcoming junction with an overlay of the route you should take.

Assuming that you mean Junction View; I believe you can disable this by simply removing the JCV file from the /Garmin/JCV/ folder on your GPS. I suggest backing it up first though.

The alternative to disabling it is to perform an update using MapInstall or Mapsource having downloaded a mapping update to your PC only. If you delete the 3D and JCV files before you do this then you'll find you have a load more space to fit the mapping onto. In fact the whole of Europe will probably fit onto a 660 with room to spare. In fact it will, for 2013.10, if you just remove 3D buildings.

Thanks for that. It is the Junction view (picture of junction) I want to remove, will give it a go.:thumb
