Anyone tried Dunlop Road Smart III's - been offered a new set very cheap and wondered if anyone had compared with Michelin Pilot Road 4 Trail ?

Yep very good and confidence inspiring. I fitted them to my GSA following recommendation from Bruce Smart (aka TeaPotOne) got 7k miles out the rear.

Rob at AMR in Bellerby (Manor House Cafe) near Leyburn went over to Spain for the launch of these tyres. He came back raving about them and as a result my Brother had a set fitted to his Twin-Cam. He reckons they are as good as the Bridgestone BT020 was when it came out, and the Continental Road Attacks when they came out. ie, big improvements over what had gone before them. I have the PR4's on my bike and like them, but when they wear I am liking the idea of some Roadsmarts.

I find the Roadsmarts:

Have very stiff sidewalls
Retain their profile well, over 3,000 miles
Should be good for about 5,000 miles on rear

But
Tend to make the bike more ‘flighty’ (or less able to maintain a line, without constant input).

Good tyres, but I will be reverting to either Metzeler Roadtec-01 or trying Bridgestone T31 next change.

I don't like them, very stiff carcass means you feel every piece of grit on the road, unfortunately without good feed back for grip. I took them off after 2000 mls.
I am now on Pirelli Scorpion trails, my favorite tyre to date.

I’m on my 3rd set and rate them highly. If you are getting them cheap then you really have nothing to lose by giving them a try.
From freezing cold temps and pouring rain to the height of Spanish summer, they have yet to give a reason to doubt them or make me want to change to another brand. And all that on less than perfect asphalt.
Don’t bother taking but them green laning or even a hint of off road. Absolutely useless in those conditions. They are 100% road oriented.

Got them on mine, did Spain/ Portugal back in may, excellent tyre , but as stated, you do seem to feel any bits of gravel but very confident around the bends, should be good for 5000 miles, hardly any wear at present.

I love them! I am on my second set on my 1200GSA and I have them fitted to my 1250S Bandit - never had any issues and they do good mileage. Try them!

Best I've had on the gsa so far. Previous were

Annakee's
Roadtec 01
Road 5 (only got 100 miles on so not fair to really give opinion if they are better or worse yet)

Can honestly say the Dunlops were best of the bunch and would happily have again. Got 6,500 miles out of the rear.

I’ve only got between 3 and 5k (and that one was very, very low....) on the Pilot Road 4’s - so sounds like I might get a few more miles as well. (I realise its all about the rider as well rather than just the rubber..).
