DWALO ON DASH,

Fairly easy job to do. Remove rear rack. Remove plastic seat panel under rear seat. Don't forget the little bolt near the seat lock. .
Undo the four bolts on top of the alarm. Turn over the lid I didn't disconnect the wires from the battery compartment. Undo 2 small screws on the battery cover. Replace batteries.
Put it all back together again. Mind your fingers trying to put all four spacers back in.
I think it took me as long to clean all the dirt that was accumulated under the plastic cover over the last 13 years.

Anyway. New batteries in. Still got dwalo on the dash, started the bike for a minute. Still there. Does this need to reset by dealer or will the obc recognise the new batteries after a bit of use?

for no sensible reason the recent thread has been closed

I was about to ask - which is the preferred method
what looks like less work doing from beneath or fighting the top box and all the bracing and handles at the top ?

I guess if no top box on a GSA, on top might be sensible
but for the GS I think its half the work from beneath ?

Thinking back and reading my post above there were 4 screws on top of the alarm unit to undo. Might not be possible from below. Can't really remember as it was 3 years ago

I did this the other month, got the error message and changed 2 batteries in alarm unit….4 screws and also changed the battery in the fob….all good now :thumb2
You do need need to remove the rear seat unit base to get to the alarm box.

One tip for anyone doing this on a GSA. I had a couple screws (that hold the grab rail frame) I had to drill out. I wish I'd flooded the screws the night before with some penetrating oil or similar...

his video is missing two fiilister screws inside the front of the tool tray under the main seat (I suspect you just need to loosen these two 6 turns or so)

having just done the job as per the video I suspect the BMW method woud be from below - almost no effort to drop the mudguard to reach the alarm box and lots of room - only reason I'd consider going from above would be if I didn't have a top box and I had panniers rails on the bike

to make my day (after my GS911 tells me they are 5.8 volts - with 14.7v from battery support running diagnostics - and they are 16 years old) I find the ones I replaced are at 3.37v each and the new Varta ones are 3.27v each - great

I think from the bottom is how BMW recommends doing it. I think.

perverse bikes

weirdly my New lower volt DWA batteries that started life at 3.27v each when I put them in - somehow show up in the latest GS911 app 2304.2 released yesterday within the DWA module at 6.4v ?
yet last week the old higher volt original batteries showed in GS911 that I was only getting 5.8v at the DWA... but when I removed them they had both said 3.37v each - strange ?

new version on GS911 came out yesterday and they have a new battery monitoring feature - if you leave connected permanently it will email u when getting flat - so might have done work that causes it to display differently - indeed doing some beta testing for them I was in and out of an old pre chrome interface and it was showing different voltages for the same bike same day in same conditions....
