I took a new GSA for a test ride the other day and like all bike it has good and bad points but overall I was very impressed. One thing I did find was a lack power compared to my Multistrada, which I did expect, I just didn’t think it would be that much.

The model I tried was the base which only had Road mode. How much difference is there between Road and Dynamic mode and what difference does that make to the responsiveness and acceleration.
 
There's no difference to the engine power output between modes. The throttle progression is more immediate in Dynamic and there are also changes to the ASC and ESA settings. I find that Dynamic makes quite a difference to the rate of acceleration for a given throttle opening in comparison with Road mode. However, it's obviously subjective and I'd advise test riding a fully specced bike for yourself.
 
I wouldn't be too surprised. I had a 1200 Multistrada before the GSA and even though there is only meant to be 25bhp between them it feels a lot more.
I think it's probably because you lose more power to the wheel with a shaft drive compared to a chain, so the difference at the wheel is probably more like 35bhp or so. Plus the Multi is quite a bit lighter.
 
Flipping to dynamic for me makes the GS act a little more like my inline 4, and I was convinced I'd be in that mode all the time after swapping from my 1000 cc Faser. 4 months in and I've settled into enjoying the landscape, sights and sounds in road mode.
 
Thanks, I'm not looking for Multistrada performance as that is a little to much for now but road mode seemed a little to tame for the odd time I do feel like giving it a little go. And lets face it its not a sprots bike so I'm not expecting s1000rr type performance. As long as there is a noticeable difference I think that will do me, it wasn't far off on the road setting anyway.

Ok, to help you work this out you tested a GSA which weighs 256 kg wet and the Multi is 232kg wet so even if bhp/torque and gearing were the same the Multi would accelerate faster than the GSA. My 2016 GS weighs 238kg wet minus a tad for the Acro optional can which is getting closer to the 232kg of the Multi. I've had 4 Ducatis including the Multi and my feeling is that the Multi would still edge my GS. However, this weekend I joined a BMW ride out from my dealer, took a wrong turn and 'had' to chase the rest of the group. I switched to Dynamic mode, which I haven't used before and made max use of the quick shifter up and down and the semi active suspension control and to be frank my brain wouldn't be able to take in any more speed and curve carving than that gave me no matter how much more power I would get from riding anything else. These are awesome machines there is no doubt.

Worryingly, the handbook for the Aug 2016 (2017 MY) GS now says 244kg unladen, fuelled weight.
