The early 1100GS's had plastic tanks I believe - do these give trouble (cracking or the like)? Any other things to look out for on early models?
thanks

If it still has a plastic tank,it won't be any bother at all now:thumb2

They were replaced when some on them started to delaminate, some still survive unchanged. They hold more than the tin tanks as well.

1100's don't get much older than mine ('94) - I have the original plastic tank and it's fine. As Vern says - if it's survived 15 years it's unlikely to give problems now.

The plastic tanks are also a bit bigger, so I must have an 1100 GS 'Adventure' :augie (however, Vern has the proper Adventure model ;) )

They cannot be easily repainted
You cannot put "normal" stickers on them (not even BMW OEM)
They swell over time. Mine is about 20 mm longer now. Had to remove the rubber gaiters & cut the front plastic bits, as well as "opening up" the hole for the screw on the right side.

Are the clocks/dash layout the same on all 1100's? Temp/fuel guages, clock and gear possn. indicator on right of tacho?

must be a bad paint job... mine has been sprayed over 4 years ago and has sticker put on and taken off again and it's fine:D
